" What did Abrams have to say about today's hearing?"

He opened with " It's going to get ugly."
Abrams highlighted Nifong smirking and laughing at Osborn when Osborn said he had a box of witness statements testifying that Seligman is not a flight risk. ( BTW- Osborn seemed tentative and unsure of himself ..Arrgh )
Abrams talked about the threats against Seligman- " rapist, You're a Dead Man Walking."
Michelle Hofland reported that the threats and loud profanities were made in the courtroom, apparently within earshot of deputies. The Black Panther was seated behind Seligman when he made death threat and then made a big production about moving his seat. BP remained in court and after court ended, was given a little talking to by a deputy and sent on his way.
Ed West lauded the strict way the Judge runs his courtroom- which in light of today's events- seemed silly.
Yale- defense arguing more than defense. They made two points-they want a court date ASAP and they have an airtight alibi.
Went a step further " Judge - You know this is a terrible case , we want you to treat this differently."
Yale- Nifong reactive. Always a step behind, instead of a step ahead. " I don't think he knows this case from Adam."
Yale aghast that Nifong has not yet bothered to examine FA's cell phone, when the timeline is so critical.
Surprised that Judge agreed to record eveything that occurs in courtroom-including sidebars, etc.
Goslee has lost touch with reality. Still drinking the Nifong Kool Aid. Believes Nifong still has lots more we don't know about.
" New revelations being discovered every day." Nifong looks so confident, he must have lots of great evidence.
Abrams shot that down-the time is past for the super secret evidence mantra . West agreed- he must share everything with the defense pronto.
Goslee has no idea why the defense wants a speedy trial.
Goslee- " Nifong can't satisfy the whims and thrusts of everyone who wants to move this case ahead ...."

Lincoln Co. is a nice quiet place with pleasant old timers and friendly new people.

I'd get kicked out on the first round of questions, though. :-(

If the pills listed as recovered from the house were bought by a player and found in the accuser's tox screen.

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

the Distric Attorney has a problem there if that is the case. How did the woman have such clear recollections of the party?
how did she remember what suspect number 43 said in the corner of the bedroom? I was told the sideeffects of those drugs are partial or complete memory loss. Out of 46 men, the woman never says, it is fuzzy; that's when I was going to pass out.

The Dancer also has a history of passing out or not answering anyone when drunk.

So she took some of his pills in the bathroom. How could anyone prove that the pills led directly to a rape? If that is his smoking gun, the men in white shirts should appear to take LIEfong away.

Big deal.

3 Cable shows at 9:00pm, there was a trial appearance today with Racial strife and multiple motions.

Not one show led with the Duke story - not one.

The media is moving away slowly from this story.
It also shows on the reduced amount of stories on the wires.

I expect Greta to cover it because she hasn't covered it lately and nothing happened in Aruba today.

I've only seen a little TV today, but I only heard the Dead Man Walking comment on AM radio and the Assoc Press had no mention of any taunting or comments or controversy.

From By AARON BEARD Associated Press Writer

Seligmann was stoic as he entered the courthouse for his first court appearance, passing in front of TV cameras and photographers. He endured taunts from members of the New Black Panther Party, one of whom yelled, "Justice will be served, rapist!" The defendants are white, and their accuser is black.

There must be an update I saw a version that was considerably shorter and it did not have any comments like that.

I read a Assoc Press article by Aaron Beard: this went out to the country. Hundreds out outlets use that story.

The story did NOT mention anything about the Rapist calls or Justice will be served, Rapist or the Dead Man Walking calls to Seligman. The story also didn't mention the Black Panthers in any way.

They will never cover this story fairly. Never.

Greta gave a good report after the setting today. She was in the courtroom so I expect she will cover it tonight.

**Police* probe a relief to city SBI will study call girl charge*

Author: JANE STANCILL; Staff writer

Edition: *DURHAM* Section: NEWS Page: B1

/Index Terms:/ *Durham* *police* SBI DCC *prostitution* LEAD

Estimated printed pages: 2 Article Text:

*DURHAM* -- Now that state and federal agents are looking into allegations of wrongdoing surrounding the *Durham* *Police* Department, everyone from City Hall to Main Street is breathing a sigh of relief that outside agencies are finally entering the case.

District Attorney Ronald L. Stephens has called the SBI into the investigation involving allegations that a *prostitution* ring operated out of the *police* department and the handling of an in-house probe of the charges. He's asked agents to look at possible obstruction of justice, intimidation of witnesses and even perjury involving the complex case.

"There needed to be someone totally independent to come in and in a professional manner review all of this and make some determination on substantiated facts as to whether things were done appropriately and legally," Stephens said.

*Police* Chief Trevor A. Hampton says he also has asked the SBI -- as well as the FBI -- to enter the case.

On Friday, City Council members said it was time outside investigators came onto the scene. "I think it will raise the comfort level of everyone involved," said member Sylvia S. Kerckhoff.

Others said the *police* department should never have been investigating itself in the first place.

"Hindsight is 20-20," said Mayor Harry E. Rodenhizer Jr. "We were not aware of the first two investigations. But I would have been in favor of an outside investigation from the start." An internal investigation was conducted over five weeks late last year by officers from the force's own organized crime division. That's when allegations of the call-girl operation and other sexual misconduct surfaced, but no criminal wrongdoing was uncovered.

The department's investigation focused on five employees, including Wiley Davis Jr., former career development manager, who resigned earlier this week amid allegations that he falsified his academic credentials to attain his city position.

But some have speculated the investigation may have been compromised from the very beginning. It started out in the department's own professional standards division and then was handed over to the vice officers.

Hampton has said the vice officers may have violated federal laws by making some procedural errors during the probe. But Capt. George B. Hare, who leads the vice unit, has staunchly defended his investigators.

And on Friday, he welcomed the outside agencies into the case. "It will get a fair review," he said. "I have a lot of confidence in SBI and any federal investigations. So far, the chief has been in full control of information presented to the City Council and the public. There are more details."

Meanwhile, officers on the street said morale has already started to rise with news of the pending investigations. During the past three weeks, some officers have said it was hard to concentrate on doing their jobs.

"This has been an explosive issue to everyone," Hare said. "Maybe with the SBI, we can get things back in perspective and get back to what we're supposed to do."

Beginning early next week, several agents will start reviewing documents and conducting interviews at the department.

"I hope it won't take long," said SBI director Charles J. Dunn Jr. "But you never know until you get into it."

that is a good point I guess that is possible, but if it is that and in his bathroom, it would be argued that if it was some sedative or benzodiazepine, she took it while in the bathroom of here on accord.

The article I saw didn't have that.

The THREAT was the Dead Man Walking comment. That was not in the article, even the updated version.

Thank you. I heard an AM radio report and they reported the DEAD MAN WALKING COMMENT. And the reporter said it was SCARY in court. I think the exact words were a little scary and some of us were intimidated by the man.

He stared and stared and the journalists wondered if there was going to be violence.

well, I'm going to go watch the shows that don't seem to be covering it. I'm sure Greta will.

in my opinion, the best thing done today was asking to get everything ON RECORD. If that doesn't say it all, what does.

Highly unusual, but needed in this fraud of a personal vendetta by Nifong.

Anybody buy that Nifong didn't check her cell calls? I expect the battery has already died. It is dead, that is my prediction.

Thank you! :-)

What a little corrupt hell-hole that town is.

New location, new judge, new prosecutor. Change of venue and recusals all around! That's all this case needs. Oh, and to be thrown out.

I hope the three young men sue her for false accusation and keep her from any $$$ she might win from Duke in a civil suit.

I wonder if Reade was intimidated?
I doubt it, He is a BIG boy, It would had been cool if the defense could have asked the judge permission for Reade to slap the fool tasteless.

I could believe he didn't check it. May have accidently dropped it in a glass of Coke along the line, too.

Nifong is hell bent on not finding evidence that would need to be turned over.

Well, nothing ever happens in Aruba.

I hope Reade move to a concealed carry state as soon as the legal trouble is over.
