The latest Duke University lacrosse player accused of raping a stripper is the product of the rarefied air of Washington power and privilege. Suspect David Evans is the son of Rae Evans, 50, a prominent lobbyist who boasts topnotch links to the Bush family, and David Evans, a partner at one of the capital's most prominent law firms.

Evans' preppie-looking parents stood stiffly behind him Monday as he forcefully rejected the explosive rape case that has ensnared the once top-ranked Duke lacrosse team

" on behalf of the Girl Scouts, the Newspaper Association of America, Nextel, American Business Media, Ticketmaster, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross."

Luckily she did not lobby for the boy scouts. That would make her an alternative lifestyle bigot. Supporting the Salvation Army makes her pretty suspect still. I hear that's one of them Christian organizations.

What a vicious bogus witchhunt.

There are sooo many things about this case that are soooo illogical, I'm starting to think "Bonfire of the Vanities".

I left off quite a few things. Posting them would have been a clear violation of the rules of the forum, not to mention the bounds of good manners when ladies are about.

you might almost suspect that he was selected for arrest precisely BECAUSE of his father's Washington connections. Why else does he get arrested a month after all of this, after the whole team has passed DNA tests.

Not to mention:

Rae Evans is ... "definitely superstitious," and made her family carry lucky coins during the Duke lacrosse team's NCAA tournament games, according to an interview with her on the golf association's Web site.

I am still trying to figure out the point of that sentence.

The point of the sentence is anything, anything to make the accused's family look bad...

They often refer to such writing style as "journalism."

From article: "Rae Evans is a prolific campaign donor, stuffing a whopping $31,420 into mostly Republican coffers since 1994 and campaigning for President Bush's reelection in 2004 with the W Stands for Women committee."

You know those superstitious rich connected white people.

One of the little known rich white people rituals which insures victory for the Lacrosse team involves raping black street walkers with broomsticks.

Done properly it makes ATM receipts appear from thin air and clouds the minds of cab drivers so they'll corroborate your false claims of innocence.

I'm surprised you haven't heard about them.

Yep, that is a dilly, isn't it. If she is superstitions, is this meant to imply that she has no "faith"? That she is pagan?

I knew it had to be Bush's fault. He has been responsible for every other bad thing in the past 6 or 20 years. Except for the things that Cheney has done.

<"Rae Evans is a prolific campaign donor, stuffing a whopping $31,420 into mostly Republican coffers since 1994">

That averages out to about $2600 a year; more than I give, but not such a big deal as it sounds. Lumping as many years as you can into a statistic to make it sound bigger is a standard tactic.

If they're going to be picky, Evans has donated to Dems and RINOs, too. They shouldn't leave that out.

That's how it will played out when it on "Law and Order" next fall except the kids will be related to Tom Delay and Ann Coulter.

Whichever freeper it was on the Duke threads who pondered the other day if this entire thing is being orchestrated to show minorities that the Democrats are in their corner against rich, white, Republican guys may have figured out Nifong's motive.

This and other articles like it support that theory.
