WHERE WAS KIM?

It's becoming increasingly clear that the exact whereabouts of the second dancer, "Kim" -- between midnight and 12:30 AM -- will be a critical issue. The accuser alleges she was attacked in the bathroom for thirty minutes. Presumably the other lacrosse players sat in the next room and did nothing. Where was Kim and what was she doing? Did Kim continue to dance and perform for the men alone? Probably not. Did she leave the house and sit in her car for a half-hour? Not likely. It seems possible Kim left the house and -- for whatever reason -- drove away from the area for a while, and later drove back and got the accuser in her car.

Mmm--I will check on that. I checked New Jersey's database because Linden, NJ was the address of Bunnyhole.

Not a rare name,I know.

It's actually fairly common among bunnies.

Thanks for stopping by, Mr. Nifong, to tell us how you feel about the case.

An accuser has caused much grief to dozens of families, all with no real basis. The person should not be protected. That's not our system of justice. Communist China is more to your liking, I think.

I live just north of Atlanta (we like to call it North Georgia))

About 3 years ago I was up at 5:00 am. Husband just left for work. I heard creaking upstairs & thought "Who the hell is up that early?"

The creaking noise then traveled from the upstairs->main floor->basement. I called my husband's cellphone and told him I thought we had an earthquake.

He told me I was crazy. I got to call him later and make sure he knew I WAS RIGHT! LOL!

It was so weird. I never felt a tremor, but could hear the sound travel from the top of the house to the basement. My nephew was knocked out of bed at his house.

I was there. I have a piece of concrete from Candlestick Park and the cancelled tickets from that Game 4 of the 1989 Series. Unfortunately, I was a Giants fan, and the A's beat them in 4 straight... After the earthquake, all else became less important to me.

The Loma Prieta quake knocked about two feet out of my swimming pool. The water swayed back and forth for about thirty minutes.

Scariest day of my life!

Sorry about the OT.....

Storms strike across N.C., funnel clouds reported
5/14/2006 7:09 PM
By: Associated Press

(RALEIGH) - Fierce storms tore across North Carolina from the western foothills to the Outer Banks on Sunday, bringing hail and funnel clouds the central part of the state from the afternoon into the evening.

No injuries or major damage were reported as of early evening, though tornado and storm warnings and watches remained active as the storms moved east.

One tornado touchdown was reported during the midafternoon in a rural area of Cabarrus County. Sheriff's deputy J.H. Johnson said a barn was knocked down and trees and power lines were damaged, but no one was injured.

There was "minor damage to some homes, but nobody was displaced," he said.

Straight-line winds caused the partial collapse of a warehouse in Newton, according to Patty McQuillen, spokeswoman for the state Department of Crime Control and Public Safety.

Tornado warnings were issued for counties surrounding the Raleigh-Durham area in the early evening, but there was no immediate word on whether funnel clouds had been sighted or touched down.

Progress Energy reported about 3,150 customers without power in North Carolina and 1,606 in the area of Florence, S.C., as of 6:30 p.m. Utility spokesman David Martinez said the number of outages reached 12,000 in the Carolinas shortly before 4 p.m. and was steadily decreasing as the evening continued.

About 4,000 Duke Power customers in North Carolina were without power due to stormy weather at about 6:30 p.m., spokeswoman Tina Worley said. About 2,100 were in the Durham-Chapel Hill area and another 1,650 were in Charlotte and surrounding counties, while the rest were scattered across the service area, she said.

Only about 150 outages in South Carolina were due to the storm; another 1,100 in the Clemson area were caused by an equipment failure, Worley said.

Significant amounts of hail were reported in spots across the Piedmont, damaging windows and cars.

The State Highway Patrol reported numerous traffic accidents across the affected area, but no major injuries or deaths.

Duke students celebrate graduation in wake of lacrosse case
5/14/2006 7:10 PM
By: Associated Press

(DURHAM) - Thousands of Duke University students celebrated their graduation Sunday at the school's 144th commencement, capping an academic career that included a tumultuous final two months as the campus dealt with allegations of rape against members of the school's lacrosse team.

"It certainly hasn't been easy for the last few weeks," said graduating senior Yazan Kopty, who spoke at the ceremony where he received a degree in international studies.

Sunday's graduation came two months and a day after the March 13 lacrosse team party where a 27-year-old black woman, hired to perform as a stripper, says she was raped and beaten by three white men. A grand jury has charged two lacrosse players with rape, kidnapping and sexual assault, and a grand jury meeting Monday could consider additional indictments.

Duke said there were more than 4,000 students, both undergraduate and graduate, eligible to take part in Sunday's ceremony. Few were in the mood to talk about the case, which tugged at racial tensions in Durham and attracted national attention to Duke and its Gothic campus. Kopty and others speaking at Wallace Wade Stadium mostly deflected the issue, calling it a simple distraction.

"This day is really what the Duke spirit stands for," Christian Helm, who graduated with a degree in economics, said before the ceremony. "It gives everyone a chance to see Duke at its finest again."

John Hope Franklin, an emeritus professor of history at Duke and a leading scholar of African-American history, didn't mention the lacrosse case during his address, choosing instead to praise students for their success, urge them to work for a better society and ask graduates to consider the lingering racism in the United States.

University provost Peter Lange blamed the "sad events and relentless media coverage" of the case for tarnishing the school's image.

"It's been a whirlwind," said Paul Sarker, graduating with a degree in economics. "There's been so much privilege here for so many years. I'm sure the whole thing has affected the public's perception of Duke."

The rape allegations led Duke to cancel the lacrosse team's season and accept the resignation of coach Mike Pressler. Duke President Richard Brodhead also initiated a series of internal investigations, one of which concluded administrators were slow to react to the scandal in part because of initial doubts about the accuser's credibility.

The school took steps to protect students as they completed the academic year, asking reporters to be mindful of the stress of final exams as they covered the lacrosse case. At graduation, the university asked all media to leave campus a short time after the ceremony ended.

"The fact that out classmates were being arrested _ that's obviously hard to ignore," said Jonathan Fisher, who graduated with a degree in English. "But there's a lot more going on in the world that we need to focus on."

There were 11 seniors on the Duke lacrosse roster, but it wasn't clear if they were among those at Sunday's ceremony. The two players indicted, Reade Seligmann of Essex Fells, N.J., and Collin Finnerty of Garden City, N.Y., are both sophomores. Defense attorneys have strongly proclaimed their innocence.

" Where was Kim and what was she doing? "

Kim gave an interview to the News and Observer on May 11.
http://www.newsobserver.com/122/story/438314.html
I found this line interesting ,as now Kim is outside the house when the rape occurs. Previously I thought that Kim was inside the house .

"She did not witness an assault; she was outside when investigators say the players raped the other dancer in a bathroom."

From the transcript of the FA's ID process-

Sgt: Ok, so he was not the person who assaulted you. Do you remember what he was doing at the party?

CM: He was standing outside talking to the other dancer.

The rape was supposed to have happened while Kim was outside , but, Mangum says she could see Kim outside talking to the players.
Which means that either Mangum was not in the bathroom or she was in the bathroom looking out the window at Kim .
Kind of hard to picture Mangum having the leisure time to look out the window while she was in a clawing choke hold, being forced to service Seligman and simultaneously being raped and sodomized by two other men.
And she was apparently alert and calm enough to recognize a specific player outside ( even though Kim said she became glassy eyed and stumbling after her drink ), but, could not tell Nifong if her attackers wore condoms.
Does anyone know if the bathroom even has a window and if so,does it face the area where Kim was outside talking to the players ?

We just got home from Cary. I've never seen anything like this storm; our side of town didn't seem to get the hail, but it's hard to say.

Look:

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v225/lweaton/?action=view&current=P5140009.jpg

That is hail that fell within the first 3 minutes; it hailed for 30 minutes NON-STOP and the hail actually got BIGGER.

(Do not ask me about the blue ball; I don't "get" it either, but my mother-in-law loves it.)

Happy Mothers day--and I love the blue ball--

I have one just like it. It's called a gazing ball, and looks great in a flower garden.

Glad you survived the storm in one piece.

I totally disagree. Why shouldn't Duke say no to extortion? The university already contributes BILLIONS to Durham's economy. How many BILLIONS MORE, exactly, will make you happy, bvw???

I also feel you are way off-base in your condescending comment about "volunteerism." It is those acts of kindness, concern and dedication, or "points of light", if you will, that the everyday citizen is going to remember - not the cash that Duke gives to it's PD.
