First DNA link possible in lacrosse case

DURHAM -- Tissue found under the fingernail of an exotic dancer who claimed she was raped at a Duke University lacrosse party may match a player who was there, several well-placed sources said Wednesday.

Analyzing the tissue, scientists concluded it came from the same genetic pool and was "consistent" with the bodily makeup of one of 46 lacrosse players who gave DNA samples for testing, the sources said.

At the same time, scientists ruled out a possible match with any of the other 45 students, according to the sources.

If accurate, the fingernail tissue match would offer the first DNA evidence potentially linking the dancer and an alleged attacker.

But because a complete DNA pattern was not obtained from the tissue, it was not possible to match it with the nearly 100 percent certainty that DNA results usually offer, the sources added.

The dancer told police she clawed at three attackers as they raped and sodomized her for 30 minutes during the March 13-14 lacrosse house party at 610 N. Buchanan Blvd.

You could be quite right. This is just another of the MANY annoying and infuriating aspects of this case: I'm of the impression that Idjits (known, names not listed here) are using this case for a leftwing socialist extravaganza. I've seen it done before. It's a cheap way to get AIR time to make the public notice names, who will then later take a position on "endorsing a candidate". This "free air time" crap has been going on for TOO long in this country, and it's covered by the MSM -- and always for "liberal" "socialist" "Democrat" agendists.

The date-rape drug thingee, has been floated EVERY single time before a major news ad, I mean, "fact finding talk show, or another PR release from Nifong's office" as a prelude to launching something "and now, for something completely different".

Parsing all the data that is available in FR, and weighting it out. If there was a drug, a date-rape drug in AV's system. My suspect is Kim and that AV willingingly took it. In the car. Out front. Before the "event".

I can still see OJ's white car on the highway.. its flashing through my brain every single time I see another "possible date-rape" flotsam pass on through the MSM.

Either release the report, or shut the hell up.

Hair is tissue and doesn't contain DNA. But that's probably not what they are talking about. DNA can also degrade. This is all speculation until it gets into court and the lawyers go at each other's throats.

I don't know.. but they have a history.

Nifong singled out Cheshire earlier and brought up National Case Cheshire lost to another Durham DA- Not Nifong.

I heard an Radio interview of Cheshire and after the interview, the host said from talking to the two men, I can tell you there is no love loss between them - and that may be putting it mildly.

All,

Please help me out. What is the Inside of a Fingernail?

All,

"Please help me out. What is the Inside of a Fingernail?"

If you're Nifong, it's positive evidence that you raped and strangled the accuser for 30 minutes. Also kidnapped?

Where is the inside? Is the inside the section closest to your body when your fingers are outstretched - Palm down ?

Everybody uses the term "under the nail".. so Inside must have another connotation

I'm assuming it's under the fingernail, close to the skin. Where else can it be?

After all the rhetoric, this case still boils down to some simple questions. First, was there any sexual assault at all, and second, even if one occurred, did these suspects hav eanything to do with it. Dingbat Nifong is still not past teh first question and he indicted anyway. Most second year law students would know better than that. As has been amply demonstrated, the AV is, to put it nicely, less than reliable so we have to turn to the objective evidence, namely the medical and DNA reports. How conclusive is that medical report? No one know what that report actually says. Dingbat Nifong represents that she had injuries "consistent with" a sexual assault. That is an overlawyered phrase suggesting the report is not as conclusive as the dingbat DA leads us to believe. Second, and somewhat related, we now have DNA that is "consistent with" a suspect. Again, either it matches or it doesn't. Here, it looks like the sample is so tiny under the nails that it may not prove very helpful and could get there a myriad of ways. This means that the first question, whether there was a sexual assault all, is still wholly unproven. This is a criminal proceeding and a firm possibility of a definite maybe won't cut it.

And we are not even at the second question, in which the dingbat DA's case is even weaker, namely the alibi, total lack of any forensic evidence, bad IDs, etc.

Perhaps Nifong has a smokin' hot piece of evidence we do not know about. Now that it is in the courts Nifong will have to put up or shut up.

I'd say cuticle if real, plastic if not.

Well Susana Meadows said the DNA was found on one fingernail - on the inside of the nail?

If over and under are used to describe the nail (because most reports, in other cases, say UNDER the nail)..
Does inside relate to the inside (close to the body) and outside towards the outside of the body??

If inside does NOT mean UNDER - than that's REAL BIG

I assumed that the reference to 'tissue' was the common usage definition of tissue. Commonly hair is simply called hair.

What time span was there between the event and the evidence collection? What's the likelihood for contamination from others in that locale at the time of the event?

Too many questions to resolve here I'm afraid.

There must not be any intact cells. Must be a very small sample.

I don't know why she didn't use the term under the nail. That's what everyone says.. She was brought on to talk about a very specific subject for 180 seconds.

You'd think she'd be prepared .

The cuticle..that makes sense doesn't it .. THANK YOU.

I think Mrs. Susana Meadows has brought some important info out. If we believe her and SHE DID NOT SAY UNDER, she said inside, then transference is much more likely.

If we strike Underneath.. for discussion..

If we consider inside being the term used BECAUSE there is NO cuticle. Inside simple meaning closer to the wrist as opposed to the far end..

If she purposefully indicated something other than UNDER which is the accepted term (even on generic DNA sites).. This will shoot the hell out of the evidence.

"Inside" to me means where the glue was....any DNA in the garbage can, on the floor, etc., would adhere to it. I'm not assuming the glue was still wet, but nevertheless, that part of the nail evidently had DNA on it....according to the findings. IMO....doesn't mean that anyone is guilty of a rape.
