DURHAM, N.C. - Duke underestimated the rape allegations against members of the lacrosse team in part because Durham police initially said the accuser “kept changing her story and was not credible,” according to a university report issued Monday.
The day after the March 13 team party where a 27-year-old black woman claimed she was raped, Durham police told campus officers that “this will blow over,” the report said. It said that the woman initially told police she was raped by 20 white men, then said she was attacked by three.

On Abrams show, he just had a clip of Nifong saying "Even if it's true she first said that, it's not relevant."

Dan Abrams just said about Nifong: "That guy is nuts."
I just came in here to see if you all heard Abrams read Nifong's statement.

That's too funny, I guess he has totally given up on an interview w/ him now.
Norm: It is relevant but you have to narrow it down, who said what. Now we're talking about an amorphous statement - who said it. Were there others around who heard the same thing. Was it an indidiual who was conveying it was something that wasn't going to go anywhere by gesture or demeanor.
Abrams: Nifong has the blinders on. We get a new piece of info and he says "I haven't heard anything about 20 opposed to 3". The notion that he's saying it's not relevant means he's not keeping an open mind about this case.
Norm: This is a situation like Susan said. Maybe she said 20 people were involved. Have to narrow down to who heard it and what she meant. Raped by 20 people or only 3.
Michelle: Everybody here is in denial. This is a major development and there's a big difference between 20 and 3. Assuming we can find who said it, it's a major blow and for Nifong to say this isn't relevant, this case gets better for the defense every single day.
Susan: If Nifong thinks what happened was that a black stripper isn't important, then that's why he's pursuing justice.
Michelle: It sounds like he's not pursuing justice, he's pursuing...
Susan: No, if he thinks she was mishandled because she's not important, he'll go all out.
Abrams: That's realistic but my concern is, how do they explain away what happened in this investigation. Why someone seemed to think she said she was raped by 20 people vs. 3.
Susan: You hang that cop out to dry.
Norm: It's not coming into evidence at all. It's defense spin.
Abrams: It came out of a Duke report.
Norm: Let's talk about the report. They said this is what we could find out in the limited amount of time.
Abrams: It's not in there as a question. It's the first finding of the communciation's issue. Having earlier told Durham Police she was raped by 20 members of the Duke Lacrosse team and later modified to 3 people.
Norm: I saw Bowman backing off of that earlier on this show. Clearly she may have said there were a bunch of people involved.
Abrams: I can promise you this isn't what the DA wanted in the report. They wanted to hear what Duke did right and what they did wrong, but to put this in what no one else knew about, you have to be ready to deal iwth the response we're seeing.
Commercial and onto the Rove CIA leak case.
If what she said first isn't relevant (and I won't argue with that), then what she said second (and third, and fourth, . . . ) isn't relevant either.
I wonder if that "20" is written in an official report.
