DURHAM, N.C. - Duke underestimated the rape allegations against members of the lacrosse team in part because Durham police initially said the accuser “kept changing her story and was not credible,” according to a university report issued Monday.

The day after the March 13 team party where a 27-year-old black woman claimed she was raped, Durham police told campus officers that “this will blow over,” the report said. It said that the woman initially told police she was raped by 20 white men, then said she was attacked by three.

Davidson has only women's lacrosse (wusses).

Davidson has only 875 men attending the school. Between all the men's sports D1 basketball, tennis, baseball and soccer and D1aa football and the rigorous academics there's just no room for Men's lacrosse.
I went to Davidson ( a year ahead of Tony Snow--who looked a tad different in those days) and having been back a few times I'd have to say the Davidson is much much less PC than Duke and other highly regarded universities and colleges.

Mike Nifong's parents went to Duke. He had to settle for UNC-Chapel Hill. Even after all these years later those rejection letters from Duke still sting.

BOTH his parents went there and he couldn't even get in as a legacy? He must have had some dreadful grades.

When he got out of UNC law school he couldn't get a job

So NONE of the firms he was a Summer Associate at made him an offer. Pitiful. Is there any way to find out where he summered at?

Admissions at Duke are "blind" and always have been. They first look only at academic qualifications. If you're in then you're in. Some rejects get a second look for 1) athletics and 2) big time donor families (who are not legacies per se). People complain about both.

You get the extra credit. While for the boys' sake I hope the case is dismissed, that's why I also think they will ultimately benefit from a full trial. Let Nifong present his case and be exposed as an a**clown for the world to see and go down as Jim Garrison.

The 40% Unreported Rapes figure comes up again in Berkowitz' data.

”More than 40% of all sexual assault victims are under the age of 18,” said Scott Berkowitz, RAINN's president. “But the word is getting out: Sexual assault has fallen by half since 1993. By providing students with important safety advice and tips, we hope to sustain and build on this trend.”
