Report: PD Said Accuser Was Not Credible
ABC11TV ^ | 5/8/2006

[snip]
A committee said Monday that Duke University administration was slow in addressing the alleged rape involving members of the lacrosse team.

It said key administrators relied too heavily on initial reports from Durham police that the alleged victim "kept changing her story and was not credible."

Doesn't anyone down there in the state government have any leverage over Nyfong? He is doing a lot of damage. Another indictment, after all the evidence to the contrary, is insane.

Could the DA have a brain tumor?

No doubts, with guidelines written by them. These are the same people who authored "college dating" guidelines in the 90s> "Ask her if you may hold her hand.. be sensitive.. if she blinks twice, take that as a Big No".. but if she says "buy me a drink and I'll think about it".. Take that as a sign that you are a bad, bad man.

uh-huh.

And remember, only YOU, whitecake, can be a racist and only YOU whitecake, can be a sexist.

"Enter college campus posters everywhere on the morning this "report" is produced...

True! You couldn't make this stuff up.

If you showed this stuff to John Kennedy in 1962, and told him this is how it would be in 2006, they'd call the guys in white suits with NETS. The same goes for any American leader 30 years ago.

It's like a Frog getting boiled. If you turn the heat up slow, it's much harder to notice and he is not aware until it's too late. Americans are in the pot and the heat is on!

Well put!

We've put the terrorists on notice all around the world.

The last trumpet has yet to sound, and that's here, in the US.

This was about 20 years ago, but the relations were almost non-existant. Durham's tobacco and textile industry had seriously faded and there were some very rough spots. We ventured into town to go to Satisfaction (I understand still a great bar) or did some shopping but truthfully there was little reason to leave campus. THe drinking age was 18 so kegs flowed all over campus especially on weekends, and anything you needed was available on campus. Durham's economy is much better now but also very reliant upon Duke as an employer and generator of income (e.g. tourism). The reality is that Duke does not have serious ties to the local area anymore (despite its founders and namesake) and the university could be plopped down anywhere and it would make no difference.

None of us were truly surprised that Durham officials leapt at the chance to stick it to Duke, especially during an election, but I also think we underestimated how deep the Duke hatred went.

Thanks for the insight. Seems the hatred has been brewing long before this case. Is it just a rich vs. poor thing?

People respond to Media pressure. The season was cancelled and the coach was fired because of Media pressure. They were contemplating firing the Athletic Director and then the DNA results came in and the pressure lifted. One or two people in the Media started saying, we don't know what happened, and it gave them cover.

There is absolutely no pressure on Nifong. IMO, only the Media could bring enough pressure on Nifong (or cause someone else to lean on Nifong) for things to change.

As it is, Nifong is a local hero and champion of the black community. The Media is in his corner and slants EVERY SINGLE thing to his benefit. Nifong can count on them to conclude Nifong was right and even, in many cases, celebrate him.

I think years ago, people invisioned a Free press being the force that would prevent or curtail prosecutions like this.
It is now apparent the Press is just like a Political wing in the country. All stories are promoted or silenced by the degree that they promote their political cause. A couple years ago when the Media bias was being debated, major journalists at a symposium openly stated that a News story has to 1) Be News and 2) benefit society.

So, who determines what benefits society?
Liberal Journalists are the sole arbiter.

I couldn't agree with you more. Duke is now trying to explain their slow response? Are they kidding? This whole thing gets more maddening each day.

______

I know, right?

"Hey Duke administrators, why didn't you throw the guys under the bus in a split second, instead of the 2 seconds it took you."

Just damn.

I don't know!
Where in the hell are the two Republican senators??

You know..Rush needs to get into the case a little more to stir the right and the conservative political folk there in NC.
As far as I can see, not even talk radio is too into this case, so the DBM is dominating the spin.

The people in the media that you'd think would say, how can you indict when this woman has so many problems and is all over the place. The people that would say.. this isn't how it's done any other time..

They seem to be (IMO) walking on eggshells because the Politically correct pressure says She should be believed, regardless of the evidence, because she is black & the accused are White men, and she is a rape victim. Remember someone that CLAIMS rape is automatically assigned special privileges.

Great Van Susteren is one such person (IMO). She'd be calling for investigations of Nifong if this case didn't have these racial elements. She'd be leading her program every night with this story rich with legal strategy. But, she covers it much less than H&C and she acts like she's running a Presidential Debate when discussing this case (like she has to be totally neutral).

As to why the Media doesn't have any interest in covering this story as a miscarriage of justice by Nifong. This is what Geraldo Rivera said about the coverage of the O.J. Simpson case:

"Rivera says the Simpson trial gave him a "springboard" to address issues such as affirmative action, immigration and black motorists who are shot by white police officers. But regardless of the SOCIAL MERIT to be found in the case, he says, the media should stop worrying about giving the case so much coverage."

SOCIAL MERIT! There you go, there's SOCIAL MERIT in this case. We've already heard many, including Lis Wiehl on Fox, saying even if the charges are NOT true, America needs to be having this discussion. Translation: even if these guys didn't do it, there's a lot of White men out there like that.

Newspapers are in decline, even FNC is not anywhere near the local news in ratings, in most areas.
Local news is usually more middle of the road in their coverage of everything, and that is a good thing.

I know it's aggrevating, but honestly nobody is watching people like Nancy Grace on that stepchild CNN channel.

Just like the presidential election...we had a constant nonstop attack on Bush...but, it didn't work.
In this case, outside of Durham, people who know the facts know the truth.
Also, regardless of what the Gallup poll showed, every prosecutor will tell you women jurors are more skeptical of rape victims than men, maybe they just did not want to tell the pollster that.

Unfortunately, a PC lynch mob mentality pervades much of media on such matters.

This case isn't difficult. A crazy woman who drinks and/or takes drugs has a disagreement over money with the guys she was supposed to put on a show for. She and her girlfriend call police and claim they were called the N word. Then when the same girlfriend can't get her out of the car, SHE tries to get the police to help her.

The accuser is on her way to a drunk tank when she remembers - she was raped!!

The tragedy is that this case ever made it past 72 hours.

I hear you and it's hard to argue with anything you said.

Personally, in this case, the woman next store was absolutely furious with the Duke Lacrosse team. She only knew the case from what she read in the local N&O. She's very busy, but she does manage to read the big stories in the front section.
The N&O on March 25th did an anonymous "interview" with the AV. It was really sad and horrifying to be honest. That cemented her opinions on this case. I don't bring it up with her any more, because she has a strong opinion against the boys. Another neighbor (it's a Cul-de-Sac), a lady, she was with the other woman and wanted these kids blood. After the DNA results, she is angry with the local paper and feels duped.

I read today where the Newspapers were declining in readership, and our local TV news is much more fair, so I think the facts are on your side.

I have to go, but one thing about your story that concerns me - A Durham jury will be evaluating it.

A contributing editor to Rolling Stone wrote this about
another Black Jury:

"Nobody is what you would call pro-O.J. He's pathetic, a really poor standard-bearer for any standard you want. But a lot of people who are frustrated with the way people of color are treated before the law were simply pleased that, for once, a black person beat the system.''
ENDQUOTE

You could say exactly the same thing about Crystal (AV) in the Duke case. She's Pathetic, a really poor standard-bearer for any standard - but, A LOT OF PEOPLE, were glad "a black person beat the system."
TWO PEOPLE DIED and the prevailing sentiment was to see a black person beat the system. A Durham Jury will deliver as many convictions as Nifong asks them to.

I am as cynical about this case as anybody, but do not be apocalyptic.
Keep faith in the judges to do the right thing and move this case.
I cannot imagine why they would not grant a COV...it's pretty standard in cases such as this.

Some things said on 5-8-06 Hannity & Colmes

Megan Kendall:
We're hearing (the DNA) that evidence relates to NOT Colin Finnerity, Not Reade Seligmann - but a 3rd defendant.

Sean Hannity:
'Defense' Timeline is confirmed on 2 ends

Alan Colmes
Mentions the "Broom Handle"
Report really makes the Police officers look bad

Lis Weihl
I could see why she wouldn't talk to these guys (cops) - When explaining the 20 white men story
This report really Slams Duke
