Bigfoot:New Photo From Mt Hood National Forest ?
Cryptomundo (blog) ^ | 4 May 2006

There’s a new “possible” Bigfoot photograph that has been submitted to Cryptomundo. We are making no claims about it, but thought our readers might be interested in looking at this one. And pondering what it might be.

It was taken by a scouting camera on April 30, 2006, in the Mt. Hood National Forest, near The Dalles, Oregon. The camera is a Cuddeback digital scouting camera, which was attached to a tree about three feet off the ground. It has a motion/heat detector.

Could it be someone going by in a poncho? I asked the people who placed the camera, Klindt Kendall and Dianna Martin, what they thought. As far as they can tell, this is “not someone in raingear,” they told me. Photograph is used with their permission here and copyrighted by them.

SJackson, thank you for all that info on the Skunk Ape. The Myakka photos seem to me personally be the most convincing Bigfoot photos out there.

In the South, Bigfoot is referred to as the Skunk Ape for his terrible smell, and also the Swamp Ape because of the tendency of sightings to take place in swampy wildernesses or wetlands areas. When I was in college my buddies and I loved to go out to swamp areas and do some Bigfoot searching; we never found one, of course, but we did have a lot of fun.

Now here's my analysis of the picture in question here.

I'm not necessarily convinced that it's real, but I'm not going to dismiss it too quickly.

It's too blurry to tell what exactly is in the picture. But a few noticable details can be seen. The first and most obvious is the unnaturally long, shaggy hair. This is why I think you can rule out other animals such as deer or bears. Reading other comments, some people say that the hair seems long but too finely groomed. However, I think that because the creature is so close to the camera, it's too blurred to see finer details and only the basic hair pattern can be seen.

What's also worth noting is that the creature, whatever it is, seems to be standing upright. This is why I would rule out other creatures. Now, if it were a bear, it could be standing up against the tree the camera's on. However, if that were the case, it wouldn't be as thin. We would really see more of the creature, and more visible features such as the legs would be seen. Just looking at it, as well as the hair pattern indication, it really looks like this creature is walking upright, toward the right. I have trouble imagining whatever it is to be facing the camera or facing away from it.

Would you like to be added to the crypto ping list? Cryptozoological stories are sometimes in short supply on FR but some interesting stuff can get posted (however, on crypto threads, be prepared to see TONS of pictures of Helen Thomas or Janet Reno, because for some reason people think it's just hilarious to post those).

These pictures are of a man who works for the US Forest Service in Alaska, and his trophy bear. He was deer hunting last week when the large grizzly charged him from about 50 yards away. The guy emptied his 7mm Magnum semi-automatic rifle into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The big bear was still alive so the hunter reloaded and shot it several times in the head.

The bear was just over one thousand six hundred pounds. It stood 12' 6" high at the shoulder, 14' to the top of his head. It is the largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world.

The Alaska Fish and Wildlife Commission did not let him keep it as a trophy, of course; but the bear will be stuffed and mounted, and placed on display at the Anchorage airport to remind tourists of the risks involved in the wild.

Analyzing contents of the bears stomach, the Fish and Wildlife Commission established the bear had killed at least two humans ! in the p ast 72 hours, including a hiker missing two days prior to the bear's own death.

Backtracking from where the bear had originated, the US Forest Service found the hiker's emptied 38-caliber pistol. Not far from the pistol was the remains of the hiker. The other body has not been found.

Although the hiker fired six shots and managed to hit the grizzly with four (that the Service ultimately retrieved, along with twelve 7mm slugs, inside the bear's body), it only wounded the bear and probably angered it immensely.

Think about this : If you are an average size man, you would be level with the bear's navel when he stood upright. The bear would look you in the eye when it walked on all fours! To give additional perspective, this bear, standing on its hind legs, could walk up t o an average single story house and look over the roof; or stand beside a two story house and look in the upper bedroom windows.

That one's a little too hard to believe. I think I'll check snopes.com and see if it's been listed there.

Based on what I've heard about Sasquatch, I don't think those creatures would let anyone get that close.

The picture wasn't taken by a person. It was taken by a digital camera mounted on a tree. There are several of those mounted by National Parks on trees throughout wildernesses. It has a heat vision censor that when it detects something like a bear or deer moving, it turns on and quickly takes pictures.

In this case, it may have captured a picture of a Sasquatch.

I'm no photo expert, but I agree, though given the climate I'm thinking more escaped orangutan

The cameras are quite common. Hunters place them year round, even on public lands. You tie them on a tree. Some are timed (this one), some have heat or movement sensors, some have flash units, some are infared.

Same pictures at the link.

Pictures of a Hunter and a Giant 1,600 lb Bear in Alaska-Truth! & Fiction!

The Truth:
Thanks to our readers, the truth about these pictures has been found. The facts are a little different from the original eRumor, but the pictures do record the results of a true hunt and are real.

The original pictures lacked the label linking them with hunting-pictures.com, but that is where the pictures reside.  They were posted by a hunter who used the nickname  Dalliwacker, on www.assaultweb.net, but who is, according to published articles, Jim Urban.  He says that the bear was actually ten feet high and weighed between 1,000 and 1,200 pounds.  He says the bear did not stand up then drop down and charge.  It showed no aggression at all.  He also says the bear was not shot on Hitchenbrook Island but, like all good hunters, he won't be specific about where he got it <smile>.

The version of the eRumor that claims the bear was a killer and was shot by a forest service employee are false.

A real example of the story as it has been circulated:

Version #1

This bear was killed on Hitchenbrook Island by an airman stationed at Elmendorf.

The bear measured 12 1/2 feet long and was estimated at over 1600 pounds.

The guy was on his way to his hunting area when the bear stood up only 350 yards away.

It dropped down and charged. The airman emptied his gun and the bear fell 10 yards from him.

Version #2
Do not view these photos if you get queasy at the sight of blood and bodies.  This is not an "urban legend".  REAL life, REAL danger, WILD ALASKA.
The photos are of a guy who works for the Forest Service. He was out deer hunting.  A large grizzly bear charged him from about 50 yards away.  He unloaded his 7mm Semi-automatic rifle into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him.  The big bear was still alive so he reloaded and capped it in the head.  The bear was over one thousand six hundred pounds.  It stood 12' 6" high at the shoulder, and 14' to the top of his head. It's the largest grizzly bear ever recorded in the world.  Of course, the game department did not let him keep it.  It will be mounted and put on display at the Anchorage airport to remind tourists of the risks involved when in the wild.  You would be level with the bear's belly button when he stood upright.  When on all fours, he would look you in the eye.  To give it additional perspective, consider that this bear, standing on its hind legs, could walk up to an average single story house and look over the roof.  The bear had killed at least two people.  His last meal was the unlucky hiker in the third picture.  The Forest Service found his 38-caliber pistol emptied.  Although the hiker fired six shots, only four managed to hit the bear. (they ultimately found four 38-caliber slugs along with the seven 7mm slugs inside the bear's dead body) The 38's only wounded him---and really pissed him off.  The bear killed the hiker an estimated three days prior to the bear's own demise by the Forest Service worker.

Possibly, but it looks like it would be very large for an orangutan.

Unless it only looks large due to the nature of its surroundings.

If you take this photo and lighten it up a bit, you'll see that it's the south end of a north-bound horse. The hair is the horse's tail, and you can see its right hip, the underside of it's right jaw, and the right side of its neck. It's pretty clear.

While I'm not saying this is a bigfoot. I've been at the posterior of alot of horses in my days. That hair color looks sorta like an Arab/Half Arab or perhaps a Morgan(couple other breeds too). That said, I've never seen a tail that looks like that. Perspective isn't very good though.

My question...why mount a camera at 3 feet off the ground if you're intending to take a picture of something purported to be 7+ feet tall?
