In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
ingrate; noun
n : a person who shows no gratitude [syn: thankless wretch, ungrateful person]
Etymology: [From Middle English ingrat, ungrateful, from Old French, from Latin ingrtus : in-, not; see in-1 + grtus, pleasing, thankful; see gwer-2 in Indo-European Roots.]
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
ROFLMSS!!!!!!!!!!
No I'm not doing any planting today.......I thought I would be, but the weather is not being cooperative.
The outdoor activity to which I was referring is generally an indoor activity conducted behind closed doors.......
Years ago a friend had made up business cards with that little ditty and would pass them out every May 1st.
Grass is being cut around here, and chicken houses are being tended and the poultry plants are up and running.
Of course it's too early for the tomatoes to be in, so there aren't many of the illegals around at the moment.
I don't know anyone that is currently having work done on their homes or in their fields that have hired the work out, everyone is doing it themselves, or having friends do it or help do it. So I can't judge if the so-called "boycott" is actually occurring around here.
i wouldn't expect your area to be a hotspot as far as the boycott goes. this is really geared towards major metropolitan areas.
I totally agree. Not for any other reson than we have no local media here and it is pretty much under the radar.
Illegals, we've got plenty of them but they seem to try to stay under the radar until tomato season----then we are over run with them.
The gals that run the little mom & pop convenience store have a grand old time with them. I've been in there a couple of times when some have come in - it's absolutely hilarious when the gals ask for ID for beer or cigarettes and won't accept what they show, if they have any at all. One of them got really bent out of shape one day when he couldn't buy beer because he had no ID and I wasn't asked for ID for either beer or cigarettes.........he started screaming discrimination. The town cop was not amused when he was called about it.
niiiice!! Thanks Jack!
Hello Jack,
Look at that!
I guess you saw those words in his/hers eyes.....
Thank you. ;)
Business was booming -- protests be damned!
Much ink and terabytes of pixels have been spent on the proposition that the Illegal Immigration issue is a divisive one for Republicans.
And so it is. But less publicized is the fact that Illegal Immigration also divides Democrats and the Immigrant community itself:
yeah i saw they BACKED her, wonder if they fronted her as well. A+
Ok - did anyone else see the shot of the Homestead, Florida illegal rally where they had a line of SCHOOL BUSSES?????
Taxpayer money used to haul kids out of school to the rally?
Domestic enemies of America.
i totally agree. i saw and voted in the online poll that someone had posted from MSN.Com 70%+ were in favor of rounding up the protestors and deporting them and that was prior to a major freeping of the poll with almost 40,000 responses. The only diviseness in the pub ranks on this is between those that are overboard about what they want done about it, and those that are more reasonable. EVERYONE thinks illegals are in the wrong. except for the sliver of leftists on the Dem side.
I wish I had saved the link so I could credit the Freeper, but someone earlier posted something like "so will burglars be called undocumented guests?" I thought it was a classic...
BTW, nobody from TinnySee should be casting aspersions on anyone....ain't AlGore from there?
What a great picture Jack..........but it's one I don't plan on showing my husband, he's a bit tired of fishing the cats out of the trees :)
As to his (or my) feeling about kittens - give us another couple of weeks when we find out just how many of them we have. I keep watching the very fat, very pregnant cat out in the backyard!!!!
ain't a thing wrong with turning onto a dirt road to get to yer haus. i grew up off of Dirt Road, rural PA.
It was similar for my folks, they spoke Polish in the homes (my father exclusively until age 7 when he was finally able to go to school), but whether in the steel mills or working on the farms and otherwise in public, the families would speak English and took pride in trying to fit in with everyone else.
If I quit paying my taxes, can I become an undocumented tax payer?
Nah, the government actually enforces tax filing....
my Polish grandpa married my Ukrainian grandma, not sure what the heck they spoke in my dad's house! Funny thing, my Lithuanian grandma told me from when i was little NEVER to marry an Italian, "they are a different kind of people.." My gram said. "they beat their wives and set fire to each other's houses." Hey,that's what went on on her street! and what do i go and do but marry a dago!
