The scene today at my local car wash:
Business was booming -- protests be damned!
Much ink and terabytes of pixels have been spent on the proposition that the Illegal Immigration issue is a divisive one for Republicans.
And so it is. But less publicized is the fact that Illegal Immigration also divides Democrats and the Immigrant community itself:
- Democrats: Labor Unions viewing the influx of Illegals as a potential new powerbase vs. Democrats who resent low-rent Illegals for undermining trade wages and stealing jobs vs. Democrats who object to the environmental damage being wreaked by the tons of trash dumped by Illegals at the borders.
- Immigrants: Legal Immigrants who have abided by U.S. immigration law and waited patiently to enter the U.S., and who take issue with those unfairly jumping in line ahead of them vs. Illegal Aliens who have snuck into the U.S. and who are apolitical vs. political Illegal Aliens who reject assimilation and seek "Reconquista."
Also receiving little attention is the fact that
not only Mexicans are sneaking across U.S. borders -- and that every country,
including Mexico, has valid and compelling national security reasons for controlling who enters its boundaries.
excellent excellent Homework, Marteen A+++
i totally agree. i saw and voted in the online poll that someone had posted from MSN.Com 70%+ were in favor of rounding up the protestors and deporting them and that was prior to a major freeping of the poll with almost 40,000 responses. The only diviseness in the pub ranks on this is between those that are overboard about what they want done about it, and those that are more reasonable. EVERYONE thinks illegals are in the wrong. except for the sliver of leftists on the Dem side.
