Do you agree with Pope Benedict XVI that a lack of true love is behind the growth in broken marriages and falling birth rates in much of the developed world?
Yes
No

Which looks like true love to you?
I voted no. Is that the freep you wanted? What is true love anyway? That feeling you get in your loins in not true love it is true lust.
There is more to love than what a simple poll question ... yes or no .... can provide.
I think a good marriage is more based on respect than love.
Lots of Eastern Indians (and others) make arranged marriages work all the time -- respect first, love seems to follow.
I am fortunate I married my true love. But it took a long time and one marriage (were she did NOT respect me) for me to find it.
My guess is that the Pope went into much greater detail than the story has.

And that, my friends, is what is the problem. If you aren't in "true love" then jettison the marriage, kids be damned.
Me and the old ball and chain have true love. She's an alright broad.
Fair enough.
(really just an excuse to post the good wife article. Don't tell.)
I'm not sure about falling birthrates, but *unselfish* love
is,IMO,in shorter and shorter supply today.Marriages cannot hope to be healthy or happy without such love.
Bump!
Yes is winning as of now.
If by "true love" his holiness means "selfless love" then yes I think this is very true.
Lately people seem to think it is all about them, their self-actualization and other BS. They are not prepared to put anyone or anyone's interests ahead of themselves. Not their spouse, not their children. In their minds "the road goes on forever and the party never ends" as the genius Robert Earl Keene puts it.
So, it is no wonder their marriages don't last, and their children either don't exist or are damaged by their parents' selfishness.
In other words, of course the Pope is right, and many will struggle in the dark instead of seeing what is right in front of their eyes.
Personally I think it's all the free sex available. Just too hard to turn your back on when boredom sets in.
"no fault" divorce is the problem. where else can you take half of what someone owns based on nothing other than that you felt like it? (besides Congress)
