This Is The Lockup, We Have a Warrant for Your Arrest (Alarming as Heck)

How would you like to be a regular citizen working at your job at home who gets a telephone call by a seriously husky voiced male directly saying....."this is the lockup, we have a warrant out for your arrest, (my name)."..... Takes one aback just a little, don't you think?

Just needed to tell all FReepers ........... this is how the 'Muscular Dystrophy Association' chooses to call Americans in order to try to find donors here in my area.

After thinking for a moment or two I told the guy on the phone to go f**k himself after he belatedly identified his allegiance.

Muscular Dystrophy NEEDS to change these ways of trying to procure funds......... or they're going to have a very serious class action lawsuit on their hands very, very soon by some very competent lawyers!

Rush is doing a wonderful job today with his charity.......... but these Muscular Dystrophy people on the phones better get their heads right ...... and REAL SOON!

What ever happened to "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?"

LOL -----

Prince Albert is a brand of pipe tobacco sold by John Middleton, Inc. The brand gained widespread recognition, perhaps infamously, due to the classic prank call, where the caller asks if the store has "Prince Albert in a can" and when the unsuspecting clerk responds "yes", the caller follows up with "You'd better let him out (before he suffocates)!"

I'm not familiar with being arrested, no. It's just common sense. Phone rings. Hello, we're going to arrest you. Goodbye. Why on earth would they call you to say you'll be arrested? No one would be home when they got there. You don't have to be "familiar" with it, just have enough brain cells to rattle together at the bottom of an empty coffee can.

Well I had a idiot knock on my door at 6:30 this morning to tell me I had rabbits in my yard.

What did he expect you to do about it?

I have often thought that was a very poor way to raise funds. I agree the practice needs to be dropped.

A warrant for my arrest?

Come and get me!

I've never had such a call and I wouldn't be very happy if I did.

That would explain it, then, if I have at least the coffee can and you've got none. We DO agree that it's a lame idea for a fundraiser!

Yes, we agree. I think I'll go get some coffee by the way. I've been up since 3:00 a.m., and have to keep working here until 9:00.

Be well.................

I have four cats. One is a very small female who stays outside here in PA almost all the time. Every once in a while a hawk will circle above (about 200 feet above) her as she sits out in the grassland. They always look like they're going to dive and grab her. She's been lucky so far............... I try to keep an eye on her.......... but I guess she's smart enough.

I was walking with my family once near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco (pauses while expressions of sympathy subside). We crossed a small road-like driveway which leads into a parking lot, about 10 feet away from the legal crosswalk. Immediately, a man with a clipboard, and an official air about him, approached me and informed me that I was guilty of jaywalking, and that I would need to be issued a citation and pay a fine. Needless to say, I was shocked and taken aback, and for once in my life was at a complete loss for words.

I decided to ignore him and keep walking, and at that point he raised his voice to a commanding tone, telling me to stop, or not walk away, or something like that. Figuring that he was some sort of law enforcement officer, and with fear levels rising, I stopped and mumbled something to him. After a moment or two, he revealed to me that he was not a law enforcement officer, but instead was collecting financial donations for a charity (I can't remember which one). The basic idea was that I was supposed to be so grateful that I was not being ticketed/arrested for jaywalking, and would be so impressed with their clever fund-raising method, that I would happily donate to their charity.

I was oscillating between having a heart attack, and sputtering in blind fury, and as such could still not think of anything coherent to say to him. I finally just told him that I would not donate, and walked away with my family. As I was walking away, I noted that there were others in the same area dressed the same way (a bluish windbreaker, baseball cap, holding a clipboard), who were obviously engaging in the same activity. It was summer, and there were many tourists about, so I would imagine they were kept busy.

If I recall correctly, my family stopped nearby to watch some street performers. By that time, I had my wits collected about me a bit more. I think I returned to the area where the idiots were operating, and jaywalked a couple of times right in front of them, now FULLY prepared for a confrontation with one of them. However, they must have remembered that they had already approached me, so they all ignored me after that.

I spent the next hour or two of our shopping at Pier 39 so furious, and thinking of all the things that I SHOULD have said to that guy, that I was completely unable to enjoy myself (not that one SHOULD enjoy being in that cesspool they call San Francisco anyway!!).

I didn't think it was MD, but an organization used to 'jail' you and you needed to call friends to bail you out of jail. Do you remember who this was???? They actually had the police help with this. Of course you were given notice that this was going to happen. It's been years .............anyone remember?
