Brett Favre informed the Packers on Tuesday that he will definitely play the 2006 season in Green Bay, league and team sources have told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Favre shared his decision with general manager Ted Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy in a telephone conversation on Tuesday morning, the sources said.
Neither Favre, Thompson nor McCarthy was available for immediate comment. Bus Cook, Favre's agent, did not return phone inquiries.
Favre has said previously that if he decides to play in 2006 it will be his final season in the NFL.
He should retire so the Packers can rebuild properly.
Good for him,, Brad Johnson and Brett can share a tube of Ben-Gay and a cup of Geritol after their games.
I knew he would play. He didn't want to go out on such a horrible season.
So now he can go out after two horrible seasons in a row. It's not going to get better for him. He's waiting to go out as a hero all the while his skills abandon him.
What do you think? Should he have retired or should he stick around?
We'll see. I don't think he is all that washed up.
Maybe the team around him wasn't that good. If that is the case this season won't be much better than the last one was.
Its hard to say... I agree with your statement that he didn't want to go out on last years bad note, but whose to say the Packers won't be just as bad this year. I hope that he has a good season and can retire with a positive note.
He was such a great player for so many years I hope he stays healthy and goes out on at least a winning season.
Did you ever give "Then Play On" some serious listening?
Sorry, I haven't....
My music collecting gets crazy at times. I discovered a really cool website where you can download live recordings. This morning I set it up and when I got home from work I had downloaded a 2 cd recording of Van Morrison playing LAST Night in NYC! A very good recording. The past 3 weeks I got 10 new Dylan, 30 Van shows, lots of other stuff, its absolutely amazing!
Get the film "The Last Waltz". The Band's last concert with many guests including Van Morrison. He looks pretty drunk as I hear he usually was but he really belts out some good tunes. This is a very good film (or DVD). Not cheap.
doesn't matter GB is DOOMED with or without him.
As much as he wants to go out like Elway did it ain't gonna happen.
Next question; what teams are a quarterback away from Super Bowl contention?
Finally.
All Wisconsin can breath again.
No Favre isn't going out like Elway, because this group of Packers aren't like that group of Broncos, but Favre, if he would have taken a trade to any other team -- Say Dallas -- would have been good enough to be the new starter, and probably would have taken them to the play-offs.
Tough time to be a Packer, but Favre is the best known one in history, and I'm glad that since he's going to play, he's going to play as a Packer.
If he did not want to play, he would have said so long ago. GO PACK!
Brett should stay more in a position as benchwarmer; but maybe like Brad Johnson, he can come in and excel. It has almost been pathetic watching some of Green Bay's performances last year. ESPN is saying, Brett is staying.
Better known than Fuzzy Thurston?
I sure wouldn't mind seeing the PACK do well again.
Wishing for a good season for Favre and the Pack.
