Time for a new FreeRepublic folding@home thread.
Our FreeRepublic team of 300+ members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 117th place (with 1,038 active CPUs - 29,000 completed Work Units and more than 5,000,000 points).
This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, please see the links posted below (or read one of the previous 16 folding threads)

Every time they start handing out bunches of 21XX everyone's points go down.
Three of my four computers got them Saturday and my production will be about half this week it looks like.

I lost one processor, my husband said that he thought folding 24/7 was too much for his obsolete PC. Things are slow because my G4 dual is running two Tinkers right now. One wraps up in about four hours, I'm even hoping for 2106--any Gromacs!

Looks like it's Top Secret. It's not listed on their web site.

At the bottom of the points sheet there is a statement about not listing proteins in beta as requested bet it is a beta. now if someone can figure out how to make them show beta.

"... my husband said that he thought folding 24/7 was too much for his obsolete PC" Sounds to me like a ploy I might try to get a new computer.

I've got a completed 2506 WU (241 points) that the server says the "digital signature does not match" and it won't accept the results. Anybody else seen this?
I just noticed it this morning, but it has been trying to return it for 2 days, always with the same message. The problem just sits in the queue waiting to go home. I Googled the error message and found a few forums where it was discussed, but didn't find any real help there. I checked to make sure the server wasn't down, the log says it's OK and I can ping it.
I also tried replacing the 5.02 Console I have been using with the 5.04 Beta console. The new client has a more descriptive error message " Length of work/wuresults_06.dat (5590667) exceeds packet limit set (5241856)", but it still can't return the WU. Since this problem showed up, WU 7 has run and returned OK, so it doesn't look like a persistent problem.
Losing 241 points is bad enough, at least it wasn't one of those 400 pointers.

I lost a WU (maybe the same one actually) earlier in the week.
I recieved this error message:
[22:25:35] Finished a frame (368)
[22:30:05]
[22:30:05] Received faulty work unit.
[22:30:15] logfile size: 278814
[22:30:15] - Writing 279326 bytes of core data to disk.
[22:30:15] end (WriteWorkResults)
[22:30:15]
[22:30:15] Folding@home Core Shutdown: BAD_WORK_UNIT
[22:30:18] CoreStatus = 72 (114)
That and the P21XX's have killed my points this week.

"Received faulty work unit"? It's a shame it had to wait until frame 368 to figure that out. Did your computer submit the portion finished? I think they sometimes give partial credit, but I'm not at all sure how that works

...I'm topped out. It's all downhill from here. I've been watching you sneaking up on me. Yeah, right. Not only are you going to be hard to catch, you have a couple of 600 pointers ready to drop.

Yeah, right. Not only are you going to be hard to catch, you have a couple of 600 pointers ready to drop. Yeah, but did you see how long it took for that particular server to complete those?!
That said, I did manage to get another machine up and running to replace the one I had to remove folding from. The new machine was immediately assigned 2107. Sigh.
#14th and #15th place are moving away from me, and you are breathing up my six. I'll hang on as long as I can-- but I'm resigned to the fact that I'll never get any higher.

For anyone interested, the "p1475_tet1_03_1" is worth 364 points.
All in all, they came in at a good time, and I had a pretty good day. Broke 1300 pts for the day, and 50,000 pts overall. May even break 1600 before this day is over. Why can't every day be like this ?????? LOL
