The problem with TiVO is you can only record what you are presently watching. With DVR you can record one program and watch another so the two never conflict. Enter the term "receiver". When I bought my DVR from DISH network I bought ona cheap, like $75, one but it was just one receiver. meaning you had to watch what you recorded if you were home. The "dueal" receiver allows you to watch one channel and "tape" another. It sounds like some DVR's have multiple receivers now where you can record multiple channels and watch another.

It sounds like some DVR's have multiple receivers now where you can record multiple channels and watch another. Yes...they do.
Of the 3 people that I know that have TiVO, they ALL have to watch what they tape. They cannot tape one program and watch another. If TiVO has later models that allow "tape one and watch another", I'm not aware of it.

I set my VCR to record about a 3-hour spread from 8-11, just to be sure.
