OK, GUYS, LET'S S ROLL!!
I thought Maybe a good way to begin tonight's discussions would be for us to share about some of the best pranks and jokes that we either played on someone,(or someone played on us) when we were younger(or nowadays, for that matter)
Also, we could share about some of the crazy things we used to do, when we were younger(or perhaps still do) that were seen as fun at the time, but look foolhardy to us today.
I'll start things off, and share about one thing I did about 20 years or so ago, when I was 18-19. I would go on little "scenic routes" as I used to call them. (keep in mind that in 1986-87 gas was WAY less than $1.00 a gallon). Now, I did not just drive around aimlessly, but I had a friend named Paul with me. And Paul was a LOT more daring than I!! while I drove, Paul tossed bottles, cans, eggs and fireworks out of the car, mainly at road signs, but also at a few mailboxes. I egged him on, and thought it was a LOT of fun!! Paul conned me into believing that I was not doing anything wrong, since I was "just driving". (I just have to chalk that up to youthful stupidity...) In reality, I would had been the ONLY one to get into trouble had we been caught, because PAUL WAS ON HOUSE ARREST at the time, for a B&E that he and some others had been involved in , AND he was only 17!! SO, had we gotten caught,(and in early '87 we ALMOST did!!) I would had gotten the book thrown at me, for vandalism, littering, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and who knows what else!!
I'll reserve the stories about me messing with gunpowder, acid, gasoline, lighter fluid and fireworks for another time!!! (He....He... He..)
SO... Does anyone else care to share anything(that the statue of limitations has expired on !!) LOL!!

I knew of them before that. I have an old Radio electronics issue from 1976, I think, that has the article about them. "The next big thing in sound". SURE!!!
Sony has lost a LOT of money over the years with lights that failed. (DAT, Elcaset, MD(not a total failure) Beta, Hi8, indextron,Vidimagic and so on.

Hey Jack!!
Wasn't one of the first ever CDs released by Peter Gabriel in 1982? And speaking of Laserdiscs, I still have about a dozen of them left, but no device to play them with. Don't know why I still keep them. I still keep my vinyl records too.

The RAZR is the slim cell phone from Motorola and Cingular.
But now, they offer an iTunes-enabled and slimmer sibling called the SLVR.
Me? I got my Nokia and that's good enough for me...

1976 sounds right. I was in the AF then and used to dream of buying one at the time.
I wasn't real happy with the cassette. Too much hiss. Blank tapes used to cost me $33 for 10 Maxell UDXL 90 minute tapes, delivered.
Now I buy blank 80 minute CD's for about 63 cents each and the sound quality is so much higher.
Much cheaper, especially when you factor in what money was worth in the mid-70's to what it is worth now. What else has gotten far cheaper and far better? I can't think of anything else.

Right. That'll work.
What kind of professor are we dealing with here?

Sprint has a rival to the razr now. I think it's called BLADE and it's gotten some really good reviews.

I didn't mean for that to come out as sarcasm. Being sick at all sucks. And I SO understand the not sleeping thing. I'm an insomniac too and having strep throat hasn't helped. I hope you get better soon :)
I'm debating whether you're lucky or cursed. My exams are next week. I'm not sure whether it's better to have them out of the way or if I'd rather have more time to get ready for them. Oh well. I don't have a choice.

That would be Motorola and AT&T.
The original proposal for the cell system was from AT&T in 1971.
The first workable (and test-marketed) cell phone was the motorola dynatac, in 1973(HUGE--weighed about 3 POUNDS!!)
In 1978, the second-level of the system, then with the digital switching techniques worked out was mass-tested in Chicago.
In 1983, that second phase system became the standard and was released for the nation.(analog transmission with digital control.) Equipment was still large, and expensive (averaged over $2,000) and talk times were VERY expensive (0.50 a min, I believe or so)
Cell phones really took off though in the '90's, with miniaturized phones that cost less than $400 and then often free, with a contract.
Now, they are virtually a disposable item.
I have a couple of old analog phones around here . A GE from the mid 80's (2-piece unit, with a control unit about the size of a car-radio and a separate, cabled handset)and a large hand-held unit from the late '80' I think.

I do not think by today's standards my friend are that pricey but they are huge I will have to see if I have a photo of them and post it.

I have two. a deck in my stereo system and a hand-held one I use in the van(through the stereo system.) I REALLY like them!! I have had them for awhile. Finding blank discs is still not too hard.

A middle-aged leftist who enjoys Ehrenreich, NPR, Air America, and Frontline.
To her credit, she has been assigned to serve as faculty adviser to the campus, but she supports the President, who is currently embattled.
I personally think that most any FReeptoon will work--but if you've got recommendations, by all means.

Betamax from what I understand was better quality than VCR but for some reason VCR took off and beta did not I think you can still buy the blank tapes though.

When I was younger, my parents had the car phones...those things in the case with a cord. I'm not sure if we ever got rid of those things.
