The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'd pour peroxide on it.

As awful as the situation is, I can't help but worry that my neighbors might think I've lost my marbles.

I'm guessing that they were hoping you'd catch up to the dog with that butcher knife!

What a lousy way to start the day, 2J. I'm sorry about JarJar and Puffy. I hope the boys won't be too sad, and I hope Benny Hen won't be too lonely.

If you think quick veterinary care would save her, it's winnable in small claims, but you'd have to pay for it and just hope for reimbursement later.

I don't think it would.

I'm trying to deal with this and some stuff for Steve at the same time...he has no idea and I'm not going to tell him till he gets home. Which means I gotta take care of it.

I'll check in later.

OK 2J.

I'm very sorry all this had to happen.

Just Dang! Dang. I am sorry to hear about the loss on your part. Well, at least there is ~some~ restitution in that the dog got taken away, but still... it doesn't seem to me to be nearly enough.

I got Jar Jar buried. The two Buff Orpingtons are just standing next to each other in the run...like they're in shock.

Steve is coming home pretty soon...I'll let him deal with it.

He told me one of his advisors said he wouldn't get a chance to look at his paper until next Monday, maybe, and then he's going out of town for a week. Which means, as far as I know now, that Steve won't make this Friday's deadline to submit and graduate this semester and likely he won't make the deadline to at least finish it and submit it before the ceremony.

I'm so numb and overwhelmed that it doesn't even upset me. I feel absolutely blank.

I'm glad he's coming home soon. That's frustrating about his thesis though. They (the committee members) ~knew~ that Steve's trying to graduate this semester. I just feel that if it hadn't been for his advisor, he'd have been able to. The advisor dragged his feet when he could and should have been helping all along. Maybe you're right and there is something political going on there?

Whatever the case Steve will be able to walk still, right? Even though he graduates in the summer, is that right?

Earlier, when I went out to the chicken run, I was just overwhelmed with the mess! The ground was covered in feathers. How on earth was I gonna get it all up? I guessed with a rake, but ugh, what a task.

Amazingly, the run is almost all cleaned up. The little sparrows and grackles have almost completely taken the feathers away that all over the place out there. I guess they're lining their nests with them.

I have pictures of it with the feathers everywhere, for documentation sake, but there aren't very many left now...and they're still picking up.

Hmph.

You're just not having a good day, 2J. I'm sorry about all this. Wish there was something we could do...

What a crummy day... no... a crummy bunch of things to happen on what would be an otherwise good day. :-)

Hang in there, 2J.

Steve's on his way home. I told him what happened. There's nothing more he can do today anyway.

Here's some good news, though...

1. The formatting guy said the formatting of the thesis was perfect and needed no correction.

2. One of the two committee members in Stillwater asked Steve to add a chart and then he'd sign off on it. That's good...maybe get the ball rolling?

3. I got Steve signed up to walk the commencement here in Tulsa. He was supposed to have filled out a reservation card and hadn't (last thing on his mind, you know). The deadline was today and I faxed it to them.

Mmm, pizza... I think you're gonna need pizza tonight. Pizza and merlot, probably.

That reminds me. I am reading The Maker's Diet right now. There are so many things you are already doing that this books recommends, that every time something is mentioned like making your own yogurt or kefir, or flaxseed bread or pancakes... I am reminded of you and your healthy diet.

Have you read this book?

No I haven't but it reminds me! I need to put in an order for some goat milk, since we're going to Stillwater Friday! I can get it on the way home and some kefir too!

Sounds like a great book, though...right up our ally. Maybe I'll get it for Steve...

Yep...as soon as he drives up.

I don't touch the stuff without him being here. I'd just about get a glass in me and a jedi would lop a finger off or something I'd need to deal with it!

I could probably do it, but I want my head absolutely clear when I'm here alone with them. And I do have a pretty low tolerance. I usually just drink the stuff and commence to ridiculing the commercials on TV.

Yup, that's a really good plan. Now that I think about it... I don't think my parents started drinking until one of us kids was old enough to drive and they certainly never have enough to impair judgement. It's a good example you're setting for your boys!

Heh, low tolerance, yup, that's me (though mine has increased). I like to have a glass of wine after I'm done studying for the evening, it makes life seem more relaxed.
