The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Worry not, he probably had to go for parts.

Well, it's not fixable right now till the water drains out of the hole. Don't know if he'll come back tonight or not. I probably shouldn't have gotten so sweaty, I've been out mowing in the back forty and I'm pretty ripe :~)

I didn't think to fill any bottles this morning. And I mowed today, too.

Gonna be just *lovely* if I have to go to church like this.

Yeah - us neither... have a 55 galloon barrel of it in the barn though, that's a lot of work just to flush the toilet :~\

And speaking of toilets, mine run constantly...so I doubt the water in the pipes will last long. It'd be nice if he'd come back this evening, but somehow I'm thinking tomorrow or even Monday...which would really not be good.

Makes me kinda wish I had a gym membership or something.

Also realizing how much you use water when cooking. Puts a damper on using any kinda fresh vegetables tonight. Good thing I have some frozen stuff.

Well, it's been about ten years, but I committed firearms today. This is the publicity photo of the FN PS90:

Now, photos of how the little bundle of joy arrived at my house:

ps90_2.JPG

Field stripping it revealed the plastic parts to be nearly identical to the Steyr AUG stock and trigger pack. The trigger pack is a 3/4 scale version of the Steyr, right down to the "drop safety" that locks the sear in the event the rifle is dropped squarely on the muzzle. I hope FN paid Steyr for the design, or there could be severe legal problems here.

ps90_1.JPG

My initial review is that this is an amazing little rifle (except in Michigan, where it's an amazing big handgun). First, it's totally amidextrous, except for the sight adjustments. Top feed, bottom eject, charging handle, mag release, and the safety is a horizontal disk at the bottom of the AUG-like trigger. The reflex sight is nice, with an optical bullseye reticle and tritium-illuminated posts at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. There is also a large empty area in the stock behind the magazine. I don't know what it's for, but it has rails and grooves already molded in.

So far, my only real reservation is the very narrow viewing angle of the sight, which does not make for easy snap-shooting.

Second, the weapon is lacking accessories, like more 50-round mags (I bought four a year ago on the hope that my FN ship would come in some day). I can put on Picatinny rails on the top and two sides of receiver. I might wind up with an Eotech holographic site on the left side, and a light on the right.

And if I can ever track down the rumor that Michigan will allow the BATFE to issue tax stamps if the proper number of chickens are sacrificed, I may plunk down $5 for an "any-other-firearm" stamp, and $250 for the 8-inch barrel of the SMG.

I'll post more as soon as I can track down some 5.7x28 ammo.

Well, I am naturally about a shade whiter than my wedding dress and I want just a little bit of color.

I spent my summers at thepool every day as a kid. So when I'm out in the sun, I tan pretty easily. Did the tanning bed thing some when we were in DC. But it never really worked for me.

Some of the better quality bronzer/fake tan stuff might work for you as well. You just have to be careful to apply that stuff evenly.

It's not like the old "QT" stuff they had when I was a kid. I used it one summer and turned orange.

Congrats WinMag, the long dry spell has been broken in fine fashion. That is one fascinating firearm. Not often seen and you are certainly correct, it longs to be a SBR, yes it does. Again, congrats.

I think the tanning beds are starting to work, I'll give it another two weeks. Might use the fake stuff but I'm so afraid of streaks and orange.

Friends tell me the spray stuff (professionally applied) is good for a touch-up if you've got a good base tan and just need a bit more color.

Years-previous experience tells me a good-brand of "fake stuff" applied at home with a damp cloth won't result in streaks or orange, but may take several applications, and watch for eye warnings, and again you need a good base tan or it's like coloring yourself with crayons.

Heh, I don't have a good base tan, I am naturally pale. But it's starting to work... I am less pallid than I was...

Good morning!

Just checking in before I head out to finish all of the stuff I didn't get done yesterday.

And today I say goodbye to my hermies. I'll be taking them to my friend/co-worker's house later on this afternoon. :-(

I'm feeelthy. But...if I'm not too late, I'd like to go!

Looks like St. Michael's has a "last chance" service in the evening. I'm gonna try to go to that...might actually be able to shower first.
