The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I have blossoms on my peas, and itty bitty zukes and itty bitty straightneck squashes. Patty pan and crook necks are hugh, but no little squashes seen yet.

Something ate my cukes and 2 of my three butternuts...so I replanted the cukes and have my only butternut protected till it gets a bit bigger.

We had our first carrot yesterday. The radishes are all bolted and we're eating the seed pods with our salads now instead to get that nice peppery flavor.

We've had three batches of boiled turnips and more salads than I can count (spinach, which is Joshua's favorite and red oak-leaf.)

Heard today on the radio that 24 is a TV show in the process of killing off several characters, whereas Lost is several characters in the process of killing off a TV show.

We're both insensitive clods who are going to burn in hell, you know that, don't you?

Maybe you are, I was big on justice and fairness, remember? :~D

That's just the thing that hacks me off more than anything. All of this stuff could have and should have been addressed long ago.

It's why I think that back in the Fall semester when Steve up and said he was done and ready to graduate that they kinda panicked...like Dr. J never thought he actually would finish and suddenly he had. Then the paper he'd worked on for so long and he hadn't paid any attention to suddenly wasn't "thesis worthy".

Man, I'll never forget that night Steve showed me that email. I can feel my blood pounding in my neck even now.

God bless the committee members in Stillwater. They really stood up for Steve right then.

Hmmm... I think you're the only one so far not to score pretty high on hedonism. You may have to leave.

You scored as Divine Command. Your life is directed by Divine Command: Your god and religion give you meaning and direction.

?Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.?
--King James Version of the Bible

?Even as a tree has a single trunk but many branches and leaves, there is one religion--human religion--but any number of faiths.?
--Mahatma Gandhi

Yeah, but management types get to go home happy after a long day of idiocy.

Bad weather looks to be north and to the west of us...but the neighboring county is under a tornado warning. Whenever there's threatening weather, I like to get us dressed, you know? Shoes and all.

It's just my thing. Heh heh!

$150 total. I could do that if I hadda, or might could talk them down.

You have ~got~ to work that into conversation with thefamily.

"Picked up a used washer/dryer. Cost me $150 I didn't really have..."

I can't blame ya there. I'd rather face a hurricane than a tornado any day!

Well, to be strictly accurate, justice and fairness would require that we all burn in Hell. Calvinists prefer mercy ;-)
