The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

"Official" may be "over the first week or so" of going back and forth, but I should have workable Internet access this weekend... which means I can stay there. Assuming that there's power and such...

I might end up with everything moved this weekend, or not. But maybe not.

:-)

Oh, and what exactly is an Earth Box, Precious?

Hmmmm....should I plant my recycle bin?

It's a pretty neat setup...you put a grid in with a tube that runs from the top, then you pack moist soil in on top of the grid, mound it way up, then run a strip of dry fertilizer down the center, then cover it with that covering, then plant the plants through the cover. Then every day you water through the tube till water comes out a hole in the side...so the plants get watered from the bottom up.

It's a strange setup, I don't know if it'll work, but we'll see!

Thank you...I've taken a lot of pride in it and I get a lot peace from working in it.

Fiver is lounging in the shade out there right now...

It looks a whole lot like a recycle bin! I thought that's what it was at first!

It'd be a neat thing for someone living in an apartment, or with poor soil...if it works.

Don't you think it would look cute with a few tomatoes growing out of it?

Ha ha.

;-)

Here's how this one works...

http://earthbox.com/consumer/how_works.html

Is it a kind of hydroponics? It has no soil at all, just soiless mix, fertilizer and I added a bit of hydrated lime so the tomatoes wouldn't get blossom end rot.

It's just dormant... give it time and love and it'll be fine.

Maybe a bunny came along and chomped off all its leaves.
