The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The other gal at work had her Saint Bernard puppy with her most of the day. Cisco seems downright delicate and graceful in comparison. ;-)

Right now he's all worked up not because of those bangs (guy across the street shooting again?) but because Gidget's barking. Some watch dog he is...

Gidget's barking at the lady from the store because she stopped petting her.

Not the sack... on the floor, under the knife :~D

Oh, that's dried paint on an old work bench. Those are Hobbit Hole knives waiting to be mailed in the background.

Evening Sam - hmmm, 'machete' or numorean dagger; 'flashlight' or a light for when all others fail; 'foxes' or orcs... hmmm.

Just where were you, Sam? Seems I recall hearing of something like this before..

Good catch Ecurbh, I may have to do it. I could use it for field ops, er, environmental work.

Good pictures, seems Jack's is a bit different than the Amazon's version, notice the rings on the carry strap? Still, seems to be a reasonable facsimile.

Very nice 'bob' you have there. Colt 1917, a fine old .45 double action revolver, S&W is making a similar one today. LSA's dad was issued a SW '17 when he was in WWII in a chemical warfare outfit. Several transfers later he ended up with a Thompson, wasn't able to make his way home with that one.

I've always liked the S&W M625, a tricked-out N-frame in stainless. I have my doubts about all the large Smiths in titanium and aluminum. The thought of firing a 18-ounce .44 Mag makes me wince, and kicks up my carpal tunnel.

My one wish in a revolver would be a 5-shot .45ACP snubbie on a Smith L-frame with a minimal grip. It would have to be in stainless, to give it enough mass so I didn't become gun-shy firing it.

My old shooting partner has a SW S/S Mountain Gun in .45LC; It's a fine shootin' iron. Pleasant to shoot and very well balanced. I like the pacs on it, he prefers reworking wood grips.

Ooh, wait...I'm really slow here...does that mean my stand-in gets to work for the Texas Rangers? ;-)

That could be interesting...especially if there are some interesting Rangers...

Hm...
