The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well, if you did it right away you could do it where the grass is still dead from the garden tarps if you didn't want to kill a spot... or over in the corner closer to here where it's pretty much rock anyway maybe.

Hope my stuff isn't dead when I get back

Looks like parts of Kansas City are getting some serious rain so your plants may be getting some relief, unfortunately, we're not yet :-( LSA

I suppose I could do it out by the fence where the grass is kinda sad. I just worry about starting a fire this close to the house...

Won't be today, in any case. It's breezy.

Dripping slightly out there. Granted, in the Pacific Northwest lexicon, that's entirely different from "rain", so the weather guys are still right. ;-)

Those tall things are still too green to burn well, anyway.
We won't set your house on fire, don't worry.

I'll post a picture of ours when we get it home. Keeping to the Middle Earth theme, SirKit is thinking of naming it "Thorin", after Throin Oakenshield, because it will be a hard working (like the Dwarves) truck, and we're getting it in Oakwood GA! Clare had already named our silver van "Shadowfax", and the red van, that we're giving David is named "Brego".

I left it out for an hour, but it just keeps crying for Mama. :-(

Poor thing.

I heard that! ;-)

Good thing I kept the box my s'more maker came in. I can pack it all up safe and sound in its original packaging.

Thanks everyone...I was wrong, it was 32.

Happy Memorial Day All.
It is beautiful here in So FL, blue skies, warm, not too many mosquitos, gators are behaving so far.

Well, I bled on my shorts the other day, so filled the sink up with water and soaked 'em a few hours. Next morning I was looking for my cell phone - lucky I had an old one that still works.

Oh dear... sorry about the cell phone... all this talk of bleeding, and no mention of the wound? Hope that's OK too :~D

Afternoon Sam - heh, long as you get the month and day right, the years, they keep changing, the month and day don't. :-)

Congrats on 32 years.

Front moved through, dropped the temp a dozen degrees and about a third of an inch of rain. Still rumbling out there and light precip. Gypsygirl is still under the computer desk.

No, just a small cut on arm, don't know where it came from, it bled a lot for some reason. I'm only out $18 for the cell phone, but I hated to lose it (it had a camera), at least in the way that one hates losing things that aren't really very important in the fist place!

I'm trying to figure out whether to try and sneak a replacement from the phone company, so far I'm taking the stance that while the phone co might be crooked, I ain't. Jury is still out, though!

Thanks. Man, that 12 degree drop in temperature sounds nice - don't expect to see anything like that here before mid October, if then. OTOH, unlike the rest of the deep south, it rarely gets above 95 in Miami for any reason, so that's something.

It hit 91 in the Detroit area yesterday, 96 today.

I'm glad I did the yardwork yesterday. It was a boonie-hat-and-camelback four hours of work, though. But I ain't taking chances in high temps and high humidity.

As befitting my observance of Memorial day, I'm working on troop requests and knives.

"As befitting my observance of Memorial day, I'm working on troop requests and knives."

Very good! I'd better be sending a donation.

Meanwhile, I hope it cools off there.

Well...Tam is driving me nuts, so I'm finally gonna go get a scratching post from Petsmart. Pray that I manage to avoid the temptation to buy another half dozen toys for Cisco...especially as he seems to prefer sticks and rocks. ;-)
