Back. Long day, though mostly good.
The phone deal didn't turn out well, though. *sigh* Verizon doesn't let you re-up your contract unless you're finishing one term, so I couldn't just tack on a few years as a means of getting a new phone.
And it wasn't under warranty, though...as it turned out, that wouldn't have covered things anyway. As I was going into the store, the truth was finally revealed - it didn't just get dropped; it got dropped into water. Explains a lot - it's NOT a delicate phone...I've dropped it down a flight of stairs before without a problem, among other drops. It's one of the reasons I chose that model in the first place.
Bottom line was that I ended up having to pay full retail price. Hundred and fifty bucks. That's their absolute cheapest model, so it wasn't as if I got to trade up or anything for that neither.
*sigh*
That's a lot. But I couldn't bring myself to have him pay. It was an accident. Granted, it shouldn't have happened, but I guess that's life. So much for spending money on a new wardrobe for awhile, though.
Thanks a lot for watching Cisco, BTW! Heh...and I didn't even hafta pay a ransom to get him back... ;-)
You know, it may have been an accident but he still broke it. I think at least he should pay part of that. Sometimes you're too nice, maybe. With all those little brothers you ought to have more cutthroat instincts... eh, it just means you're a better person than I am.
What a pain.
Dad sent me on a guilt trip for even thinking about asking for restitution. I ain't gonna go there.
Just hope he learns from it.
In a way, it's also Margaret's fault - she was the one who borrowed it in the first place, and then was too lazy to put it away, so she gave it to Bill to hang onto. And maybe I should have known better than to lend it out in the first place.
Ok, I don't know all the circumstances but I don't see why you should have a guilt trip about wanting someone to help pay. You didn't break your phone. Margaret and Bill are both adults and should know how to take care of other peoples' stuff. If they borrowed a phone from a friend and killed it, they'd insist on paying, right? So why is family any different?
"Family" is not another word for "people you can take advantage of and then make feel guilty", Rosie. They need to figure that out.
My mom attempted to pre-emptively guilt-trip me out of charging my sister rent when her two-week visit stretched to nearly three months.
I had already told her "I'm not going to charge you rent, but merely ask me to remember me appropriately when you can, thinking not of the extra I'm spending to keep you, but rather how much you're saving by not staying in a hotel suite with full kitchen, free phone and wireless internet."
I figure an even split of my expenses, plus the fact she (unintentionally) broke my stereo, adds up to about $800. So far she's given $620, and I'll never ask for more, nor hold it against her in other ways; as it is, she's more responsible about relatives' stuff than Mom is!

Morning.
My desktop is dead.
the odor of fried plastic wafts through the air.
Oh, no! What happened? Lightning? LSA
Mornin' folkses...
[sip]
Got an early meeting this a.m.
Dopey me.
I unplugged the surge protector last night when the storms started coming through. This morning when I plugged it back in, "Pfffzzzt!" and burnt plastic.
~mornin'~
I was all set to whine about it bein' Monday until I saw the guy in the toll lane next to me lose his entire pickup load of sheetrock on the road.
Oh, my.
LOL... Ouch. I saw that happen once. It makes a sizable mess.
This just sorta slide off the back of the truck and sat there. It didn't look damaged. But where he was he wasn't going to have an easy time getting it back on the truck.
It's early yet...
~sip~ :~D
Now THAT would remind them of their manners :~D
Although I'm sure even Jack could stand looking at Helen's kneecaps.
