The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yah... good idea. If only you knew somebody with a boat and some fishing gear...

Gotta do that.

We should ship Corin some fresh salmon too. Because, after all, no one has ever shipped Corin fresh salmon. :-(

There's a lot of people in Seattle that are not prepared to have someone from Florida teach them something about good coffee :~D

I know it's gotta VW Bus in it...

Have you seen the commercial for the movie where the VW Bus is commenting on how the street lights blink? I love the Jeep next to it that says, "The 60's weren't good to you, were they?" The kids crack up every time they see that!

Heh, didn't see your post before I asked the question about the commercial. It is SO funny! Joseph really wants to see that one!

I object to it on the grounds of it looks like a big technicolor turd :~D

ROTFL!!! I have to agree! Somebody was on some series drugs while designing that one!

I'm gonna watch it before the jedis do...you never know. Toy Story 2 even had stuff in it I didn't like... innuendo, you know.

Ok, gardeners...here are some more pictures.

Here is the red oakleaf lettuce. See how tall it is? (The one on the right is the tallest one we have.) As it grows, I harvest just the bottom few leaves, which is why the stalk is bald. We have a bunch of lettuce plants, so harvesting just a few from the bottom of each makes for about a daily large bowl of salad!

Now here is the butternut squash I planted from that one I ate. It grows really fast and is just taking off! Steve put scraps of an old housecoat underneath it. I don't know why, but he has a BS in Agriculture/Horticulture, so I guess he knows.

I was afraid it wouldn't produce true, but it looks as if a butternut squash is what I'm gonna get!

Here's my cukes on the left and a Flamme tomato on the right...

Here's a radish outside the garden bed. Apparently it tried to escape but was thwarted by it's own root system.

Looking good! We're trying to decide what to put in the planter box. Something that grows in full sun and likes heat....lots of heat....

Thank you!

Hmmm...window box, eh? Patio maters? Habanero peppers? They're smallish.

I planted one of these:

The garden guru that I mentioned before sold me the transplant. He's known us for years and organizes a yearly garlic festival at OSU. He remembers us because Matthew, when he was about 2 years old, was in the newspaper sniffing a garlic clove at the guru's festival.

This is our eggplant... Rosa Bianca. I've grown them before and they're really pretty!
