The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hopefully I'll get squash...

At least it looks like I'll have tomatoes and cucumbers, and most likely corn. Considering for awhile there I didn't know that I'd have anything, that's a big deal! May also get beans, but they aren't up yet.

I have to thin the corn plants one of these days. I'll wait until they're a little taller, though. Right now they're just tiny green spikes.

Aw heck! I'm sorry. I didn't think.

I was just kiddin' ya. I think someone had already posted that thread. And ~I~ really didn't care anyway. I got a little interested with all the Richmond hype for Elliot, but other than that I've never really followed the show.

You'll be hooked on "24." It's visual heroin. When you start with season one, make sure you've blocked enough time to watch all 24 episodes close together. Nearly kilt me doin' it on Netflix waitin' fer the mail.

That said, I've got the first three discs of Lost, season one waitin' at home.

I prefer matinees...lot less kids... during the school year, anyways.

Isn't there some special cinema there in the area...that Penny1 and Hair went to for the LOTR movies?

I *think* that theater closed...trying to remember where the theaters in the area are.

There's a hugh new one at the exit where I get off to go to church...right next door to my bank. That's probably where I'd go, I suppose.

What Corin speaks is true...Steve is already hooked and I'm getting there. It comes on at a strange time here, though...8pm, which causes some problems with me watching it because that's right when I'm getting my evening chores done. But if I don't forget, I can work around it.

I still need to see "United 93." So I may see if I can do that this weekend. Lines will die down for X-men by next week or so.

Luke is anxious to see "Cars" when it comes out in a couple of weeks.

Or is it 7pm? I can't remember. Steve knows, but I'm always busy right then!

2J's talking about the Cinerama in Seattle, which is a very special theater. Paul Allen saved it and put several million dollars into it. It has a huge screen and a superior sound system. A nice theater, but it's not only in town, it's in TOWN. Heh... Worth the trip for a very special movie, which FoTR definately was.

We might go see X Men III - We do have our own brand new theater I haven't been too yet.

Let me know what you think about United 93 and Cars. If 93 is appropriate for the jedis, I'd like to know. We talk about Flight 93 a lot and they know the people on board were heros...so if it's not too much, I'd like to take them.

And I think you know why I want to see Cars...heh heh...I know it's gotta VW Bus in it...

There's a butcher shop in Wisconsin where my MIL lives and it sells this stuff called garlic stick. It's basically a salami-type thing...very garlic-y...very good.

Although I'm sure Steve would disagree, I think liver pudding is better.

Ramius saw "United 93" so he might have some thoughts.

From what I've read and heard, I wouldn't think it appropriate for the jedis. Maybe the difference is that we experienced (from afar, but still) what happened that day and we grasp it as reality.

But maybe it would just be an action movie for them, I don't know.

It's like when Jr. and I saw "Black Hawk Down." I was emotionally messed up and almost physically ill. To Jr. it was a great war movie. The reality didn't mean quite the same to him.

Hmmm...I dunno. We do talk about it a lot. Actually, I talk about 93 more than the towers because even though the people died, there's a positive message there that they knew they would likely die, but did something anyway. The poor people in the tower planes were outright murdered.

I think it's why although they enjoy watching movies like Spiderman and X-Men, they don't really consider them heros. They *know* who heros are...we take them cookies on 9/11 and talk about the ones on Flight 93 and they've sent them care packages and attended the funeral of one. We wave at them when they fly over.

I never considered when they were babies that these would be lessons I would be teaching them...it never entered my mind.

~sigh~

Cars should be fun!

I need to rent a child so I have an excuse to go to that...

Ooh...yeah, now I remember! Seattle...eek!

Ya know, I still haven't been there. One of these days I'll have to figure out how to take a bus or train up on Saturday. There's a big music festival going on this weekend, so I'd kinda thought about trying to do that...but it's also Memorial Day weekend, and I suppose it's likely to be insane as traffic goes. Ugh.

Without the happy ending where they all go home, like a fictional movie would have (24 excepted). I think that's the hard part, trying to feel good about the way it ends.

I love that trailer where the car is talking to the vw bus about the stoplight and he says "The 60s weren't good to you, were they?" ROFLOL!

I'll likely wait and get that one of DVD...for the jedis. Yeah.

We can take you to Seattle one day too, if you don't manage it alone first.
