The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

If that's the cable version, we don't have cable. A few at the office watch it.

So, I've got Prison Break on 'cause I don't want to goober up the timing.

Did that guy just do what I think he did?

Yes, he sure did!! He was one of the bad-a** cons I was telling you about; he's really going to be mad now! LSA

Isn't the ax-wielding guy the one who does the 'un-pimp the auto' VW commercials that debuted during the Super Bowl?

So, Gidget starts barking today, and I look out, and there's a car pulled up to the gate, and a woman, the driver, has gotten out of the car and is taking pictures of the horses. There was someone else in the car I couldn't see well.

I walked out, and said "can I ~help~ you?" She said "I volunteer at 'such-and-such' nursing home, and every week, I come and take this lady for a drive. She noticed your horses were so pretty and wanted to take a look at them. Since she has Alzheimer's and will forget by tomorrow where we went today, I take pictures and print them out for her so she'll remember."

Very sweet, really!

I offered that I'd bring a horse up if she wanted to see closer, but she said she really didn't walk very well and could they just sit there in the car and watch them awhile... I said sure :~D

I never heard anyone complain about the smell of greens cooking ... love 'em!

And, yes, you need a smoked ham hock. You can buy it in the meat departments down here ... shrink-wrapped on a white Stryofoam tray.

Now, if you're fat-conscious, you can use a smoked turkey wing ... but there's something missing in the taste. It tastes good ... but not the same.

That's really sweet of her. She could bring the woman by each week to see them and it would be a new trip each time! ;o) The pictures will be nice, though. My sister did that for Mama all the time. They were her only 'memories'.

It's at Disney-MGM, Florida, near the Star Wars ride. They also have about a half-scale AT-AT (4-legged Imperial Walker from the Hoth battle) that seems to have left a footprint or two in the asphalt.

10 years ago they had the "boat" with the walking plank from RotJ in the same area, but no more; I don't recall them having the speeder bike at that time. The bike is better because you can get on it :)

I remember visiting the Alzheimer's home with Zulu... They never remembered me coming before, so it was always new.. and that makes it easier for a visiting dog that didn't know very many tricks :~D

They told me I couldn't renew a contract until the first one ended. I have no idea why it's different for me, but apparently it is.

Bad news: the folks at the Verizon store told me I had to go to a Circuit City.

Bad news: the folks at Circuit City told me to go to the mall, where there's a full tech support department.

Bad news: the guy at the store said this phone shouldn't be much different than the other.

Good news: they're told me they'd exchange it anyhow.

Other good news: they credited me the odd thirty dollar charge I was ticked off about.

Bad news: I brought the box and all the stuff that came with the phone...except the charger.

Other bad news: I got miserably lost on the way home, and now I'm afraid if I don't get back tonight, I won't be dealing with the same folks and they won't let me do what I wanted to do, which is swap it for a different phone, which the tech guy recommended as getting better reception in areas without much digital coverage.

I think in a good story, you're supposed to start with the bad news and lead into the good news.

Bummer... well, ~are~ you going to go back? We're about to make kielbasa sausage... will you be coming for that?

I want to get this over with...just wish I was confident I could straight there and straight back. But I guess I'm gonna go.

Can you hold one for me? I'll be back as fast as I can. I realize I'm running out of *time*...

I just got done watching the LOTR trilogy (again) and have a question.

What did Frodo do with Bag End (spelling?) And... when Gandalf heads out for Gondor he tells Aragorn to come by a different route, the Black Ships. What did he mean?

Thanks in advance for answering.

There be spoilers ahead...

Go Martha! Go Martha! Go Martha!

And I think they were just teasin' us in the previews. I don't think Jack has a gun to Logan's head...or maybe he does.

So, there's that. ;-)
