Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Until the stars are all alight
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Don't forget that the vey best episode of the Discovery Channel's new series "FutureWeapons" is on tonight at 10 ET. It features Metal Storm, Thermobaric, GMLRS-U, and NLOS-C. They call it "Maximum Impact"
Heh heh heh.

Hehehe. I guess you don't get asked to help with the sets and scenery for your church productions either?
Me, I'm pretty lousy with a hammer and stuff too but if spring break and sheetrocking was any indication I could pick it up ok...

Actually, I sometimes do help with painting, or toten' and liftin' stuff. But I don't do construction.
I ~can~ do stuff around the house. It just takes me twice as long.
My brother got all those skills from my Dad. By the time I shoulda been learnin' them, he was drinking too much. By the time he stopped drinking I was a teenager and didn't want to spend time with him.
And ~sigh~ by the time I wanted to spend time with him he was gone. He died when I was 20.

I really need to stay off of other threads. Seems like I get into an argument everywhere I go these days.

I really can't even imagine. It's one of those things every time I think about I'm so thankful for my parents. Every time one of my grandparents pulls something idiotic I remember that it could be worse, my parents could have inherited their stupidity... my poor mother is practically taking bets on who pulls a scene at the wedding...
Think how lucky your boys are that they have a dad they (should) want to be around.

Thanks. I made myself (and my boys) a promise early on that I'd try to do better. Not sure I have.
My Dad wasn't a bad father. But the alcohol often made him an absentee father. He tried to correct that, but I was being a teenager.
gotta run...

The great thing about building/construction/DIY is that there's always something to cover up your mistakes. I learned this whilst observing the construction of my house. Studs are off a bit? No worries. Cover it up with sheetrock. Didn't cut the sheetrock quite right? Got a 1/2" gap? No worries, cover it up with tape which gets covered up with mud. If the mud isn't right paint over it. If the paint isn't right, hang a picture! LOL.

Hehehe, I like that attitude. And I like the feeling of doing something for yourself - whether it's cooking dinner, building a computer, or finishing a basement. It's sort of empowering.

It comes on at 9pm EST, right?
I'll have to "watch" it via the live thread. LOST is on at the same time and it's a new episode.

The worst is going to be The Great Toy Purge. That's when my girls will insist that every single toy they own has some significant meaning in their lives and cannot EVER be donated or dumped.
How is the purge going? (My move is now done!)

Hi Rocko!
Congratulations on your successful move! Good news abounds in the Hobbit Hole today.
I attempted a purge last Saturday. It was a miserable failure.
Since I'll have babysitting this weekend, I'll do the purge myself. It will be more effective that way. ;-)

Thank goodness I'm the only one I have to move! I can guilt myself into parting with stuff as necessary. But not the books. Touch the books and die.

My books are 98% moved. Now it's just clothes and misc frap.
I'm glad I kept the box for the s'more maker than I got from the Hobbit Hole. I'll feel much better shipping it in it's original packaging. :-)
