The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm sure the Missus can handle bee-yatchy New York women just fine; she's a GRITS, after all. ;o)

Great News! Since Dr. JBY said that Steve had done the revisions HE wanted, were there others that other committee members wanted? Might it be possible that they will just accept the revisions he's already done, and let it go from there? It sure would be great if he could arrive home from Stillwater with it all said and done! Now that would be some major cholesterol medicine time!!

Heh, speaking of which, a friend dropped by the other day to invite me to a Gals Party tonight. SirKit told me this morning that he'd drop me off and come pick me up in case I wanted to 'imbibe' slightly more than if I would if I had to drive myself home. I was going to ask HIM that, but he suggested first. Heh. Sounds like a fun evening!

Careful there.... that kind of imbibing hurts the next morning a lot more than it did when I was 22.

I'm betting that'd get Cisco going...have to try it when I get home. ;-)

I played the Gidget video about a zillion times just 'cause his reaction was funny. He'd run to the window and start barking as ferociously as he gets.

It's windy all of the sudden, I wondered if your guests were over there thinking they were gonna blow over... Looked over and they're gone!

EVERYONE will be down tonight, though. Big crowd. Should be interesting.

I'm sure the contrast between my place and the apartment will be noted by most, at least mentally. Personally, I was reminded of what I *like* about my place...i.e. the fact that it's not got a zillion identical houses stacked on it and around it for miles.

But I'm just not the housekeeper Anne is, and I imagine some folks will at least think that, if not say anything about it to my face. Ah well. I is what I is.

That's why God created candlelight. We haven't entertained during daylight hours for years.

Votive candles. Dozens of 'em.

Well, they have to know it's a work in progress, and I think even Mr. BadmouthIt will have to recognize progress you've made on it since he was here. It now has a fence, a yard, and a happy dog. Sounds like Americana to me.

If I bring over my vaccuum will you at least have time to vacuum and tidy up before they get there so you feel better about that part?

*snicker*

Soft lighting can hide a multitude of sins. ;-)

Not sure it could do much about the seventies coloring, though. Those look pretty bad in any light. They'll be retro in a year or two, though, I betcha.

Dunno if I'll have time...still plan to go in search of a table and a lamp for the livingroom, so we can sit and talk without being in total darkness, or play some board games if talking is too tense.

*sigh*

... There are certain stories that always get told about childhood wherein I'm accused of things I never did. Never. I fully admit I wasn't always nice, and I guess that's why it bothers me when something I *didn't* do gets harped on and harped on. At this point it shouldn't matter, but when they make a big deal out of it, it's hard not to take it personally.
