Where Vista Fails
WinSuperSite ^ | April 19, 2006 | Paul "the MS koolaid drinker" Thurrott

I'll leave a fuller examination of Vista's broken promises for a later date. For now, let's look at the most current builds we do have--build 5308 and 5342--and see where Vista just completely blows it. As with the broken promises, Vista's failures are legion, but I'll just focus on a few examples here and leave the full list for a later time.

There've been quite a few people who've done analysis on the ease of use of linux vs mac os. Apple's strong point is that they've got such a great degree of control.

As far as windows vs linux is concerned, linux is alot easier to use. It doesn't get in the way at inconvenient times. The bottom right task bar is the most obvious example. That thing is always spamming your desktop and taking focus away from wahtever it is you're working on. Control panels such as Suse/Yast are light years ahead of anything that MS is currently putting out.(vista might change that, but we won't see until next year)

Given that you don't have to worry about keeping your computer up to date given linux's(macos would also fit here) inherent tighter security is another area where ease of use is up a step. Just use the computer. Just use it.

Mac OS, yeah, it's easier to use. Given that Windows is easy enough for most people and linux is easier than that, I've got no worries. And the price was right.

You've never seen someone brand-new to computers try to use Windows, have you? It's embarrassing.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, yes I have.

I've seen it in all three cases. Mac, Windows, and Linux.

It's embarrassing across the board. But of the three, windows is the hardest to pick up.

Did you see the recent comments from Linus Torvalds regarding the Mach Kernel developers?

Linux creator Linus Torvalds had some harsh words for Mach and FreeBSD developers that utilize COW: "I claim that Mach people (and apparently FreeBSD) are incompetent idiots."

Reminds me of last time when he called Apple's core "a piece of crap".

LOL, you guys are hilarious. Linux doesn't even have a single standard GUI yet, yet here you saying it's an easier overall O/S. Nor can I go down to Circuit City or Target, and know whatever I buy will work with it. It's a toy O/S, on the desktop, and if I wanted to play I'd just go to wincustomize.com, and get infinitely more options anyway.

You guys like Linux because it is free, because it sure ain't "easier". If you want something equal to Windows, go Apple OSX.

Having to pick between KDE or GNOME *ONE TIME* is worlds easier than having to do the update routine on a regular basis.

And yes, KDE is easier than windows. GNOME is easier than windows. The truth hurts, but there it is.

^^^^^^^^^^^You guys like Linux because it is free^^^^^^^^^^^

Don't put words in my mouth. Linux is superior in many ways.

^^^^^^^^If you want something equal to Windows, go Apple OSX.^^^^^^^^^

Both OS10 and linux are superior to windows.

There's some talk of Mac OS X moving to the Linux kernel, now that Avie Tevanian has left Apple.

LOL yeah probably some talk amongst the linux losers seeking "total world domination". If they switch at all, Apple is more likely to switch to Windows, which more closely resembles their for-sale for-profit vision.

Thank goodness. I like choice. As far as Apple goes, I tried out a new Apple a few weeks ago and I didn't like the OSX that much.
