Brooke Shields has beaten Tom Cruise to the nursery announcement.
Shields, 40, who traded sound bites with Cruise over his views on postpartum depression treatment, gave birth Tuesday morning in Los Angeles to a 7-pound, 20-inch girl, the actress' publicist confirmed to E! News.
Word of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby spread later Tuesday, with the couple's publicist confirming the birth around 4 p.m. (PT). It was not immediately known which baby, Shields' or Cruise's, debuted first. Both were girls, and both were about the same size and weight.
Last year, Cruise and Holmes announced their pregnancy within weeks of Shields going public with hers.
