Cruise: I will eat placenta
The Evening Standard ^ | April 18, 2006 | Staff

Hollywood actor Tom Cruise is planning to eat his new baby's placenta, it emerged today.

It is the latest in a series of unusual revelations by the 43-year-old Mission Impossible star about the child he is expecting with fiancee Katie Holmes.

He told GQ magazine: "I'm gonna eat the placenta. I thought that would be good. Very nutritious. I'm gonna eat the cord and the placenta right there."

Cruise has also claimed he knew actress Holmes, 27, was pregnant, even before she told him.

A follower of Scientology, he has defended the religion's belief that women should give birth in silence.

"It's really about respecting the woman. It's not about her not screaming," he has told GQ.

Cruise, who also believes he can cure drug addicts, plans to marry Holmes in the summer. He said earlier this month that their baby was due "any day now".

“Don't worry, Rosemary. Eating your baby's placenta is a perfectly natural thing to do, as a matter of fact.”

As an evangelist for Scientology, doesn't Cruise just make you want to convert?

Although sick, IMO, it's not unheard of.

Tom Cruise has most definitely jumped the placenta...

In the animal world, the mother eats the placenta.

Wonder if Tom tried to talk Katie into it.

I feel for the Studio that has to promote Mission: Impossible III in the face of this publicity. They're just good, salt-of-the-Earth Hollywood types who can't catch a break.

Who is going to go see this movie in the face of all this wierdness? I am hoping that this is the tipping point for the idiot Scientology celebrity cult, and people will just stop paying money to see these freaks.

If it is for publicity, it has obviously backfired. This will be the end of Cruise. The American public is going to have a hard time swallowing this one. Viacom must be so proud. I am sure they are waiting with a contract for another blockbuster for him.

Besides Hollywood not wanting to risk a dime on this loon in the future, Scientologists likely aren't going to be happy with this. While Mr. Cruise believes his own PR, the money making machine of Scientology won't like the bad name he is giving them.

The first thing that comes to mind is ...

EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!

Next, I had to check to see if this was from Scrappleface... Then I started thinking, "Scrapple... Placenta... Scrapple... Placenta..." It's sort of a "toss-up."

But wait....he did star in that Vampire movie.

Actually, I think that his portrayal of Lestat was one of his best roles ever. He seemed very natural in the role, and he did a very good job in that movie. However, the more I learn about him, the more I begin to think that he wasn't really acting.

He needs to have a chat with David Carradine and buy himself a fig tree.

No, this is a genuine story, I'm afraid.

I am not seeing another Tom Cruise film again.

He absolutely WAS joking! I saw his interview (or part of it) with Diane Sawyer. No way was he serious.

That said, he's still a total wackjob.

It isn't being reported that he said it with Sawyer, but in an interview with GQ magazine.

Did he say something similar with Sawyer?

LONG ago, women would eat the placenta, after the baby was born. They considered it "their" organ, and knew that it would be filled with iron. Gladly, this practice has waned.

When I speak to the man that has experienced childbirth personally, then I will listen to him tell me that I have to be silent during birth.
Until then, no man will tell me how to behave when I am having a baby.
What a crock!

Yes, he did. Actually, she brought it up and he laughed about it.
