Lawyers for Lacrosse Players at Duke Say They Expect Indictment in Rape Case
The New York Times ^ | April 13, 2006 | JULIET MACUR

Based on statements made by Michael B. Nifong, the Durham County district attorney, the lawyers are bracing for him to bring a case to a grand jury that meets on Monday. That move, they said, would inevitably produce an indictment of a player on sexual assault charges, and perhaps an indictment of other players on charges of aiding and abetting the assault.

An arrest warrant would be issued for any players who are indicted. After Monday, the grand jury here is not scheduled to meet again for two weeks.

Nifong should be brought up for ethics charges if he proceeds with this. This is clearly driven by politics. If you live in the county and can vote in the 'Rat primary get out there and stick it to this race-baiting jerk.

This woman claimed she was gang raped by three men vaginally, anally and orally with no condoms for a half hour while she struggled and scratched them with her fingernails and they almost strangled her to death. Use your common sense, under those circumstances it is almost impossible for there to be none of the attacker's DNA either in her, on her, her clothes or under her fingernails.

She comes to the party beaten and bruised and without an enforcer.

She has no ride home, so she gets one from the other dancer Kim. She never told the other dancer Kim that she was attacked in any way that evening.

At Duke Hospital she never told the nurse or doctor anything about being attacked by Duke students.

She doesn't report the Duke students to the police until 30 hours after the event, after she has had a chance to talk to her "boyfriend." Think the boyfriend may be the missing link here for multiple parts of the storyline?

I have a feeling that someone grabbed some titty, and really pissed the chick off. At that point, she went over the top and screamed rape. The black community rallied behind her, thus making it hard for her to back down and admit she was not raped, but just grabbed.

Now, the prosecutor is in a corner. He can't let the guys walk away without any punishment, but can't really charge the guy(s) with rape because it didn't happen.

So the charge is reduced to "sexual assault" and driven forward.

My problem with this case is that she was raped by 3 men and yet got a DNA ample from 46. Why wasn't she asked to identify her attackers in a lineup?

The DNA samples should have been taken by those accused. Not those who associate with those who are accused.

I think the case of the Saudi couple who kept an Indonesian slave in Colorado is a bigger story.

Even bigger is that they are being permitted to pay her back salary for 4 years that totals $16,000 a year.

They are still up on kidnapping and sexual assault charges and harrboring an illegal immigrant.

If they did a drug test on her at the ER that would be some good intel...

But I think you got the story covered pretty well there...

Druggie/Stripper/Prostitute gets grabbed by beer drinking dumb 'white boy' college jocks...her boyfriend sees big payoff...

Naturally it's a race baiters dream come true...

It's really not necessary to misrepresent the various claims to make a case on behalf of the players.

A Saudi with a household slave really isn't news ~ not in this country ~ not in any country. Those people are positively addicted to slavery.

My former secretary belonged to a group of Asian women who made it their business to identify and rescue women from indenture, and to rescue Philippino, Malaysian and Indonesian women from situations where they were sending all their money "back home" to a husband who spent it all in coffee houses while they played Mahjong all day.

Slavery is alive and well in this world ~ and it is supported in the highest levels of the US Congress. You did see, didn't you, how Teddy Kennedy and his running dog lackeys argued on behalf of their coyote business partners? That's what that was all about. Look at Teddy ~ the only women he's going to get these days are the kind some thug has tied to a bed. And Specter? He knows, but he's totally pitiful. No moral fiber at all.

Yes, there are a number of illegal immigrants who come into this country and have to "work off" their passage in a sweatshop or whorehouse.

This case may be "the other" kind of slavery. Involuntary.

The former is still criminal, opressive, and a trap but this sort of slavery may represent a possible future for the non-Islamic world.

"Visions of Mark Hulbert"

he was on a couple of show stonite and my first impression of him is WOWSER!...is he ever gorgeous.....

after that though, he was so mamby-pamby and wouldn't even criticize Nifong for his blatant unprofessionalism and his jury tampering....

you stand for something or you don't.....

her boyfriend sees big payoff

Did they get the boyfriend's DNA? Oh wait we would be surprised if it wasn't there.

I wonder what the result would be if this had been Duke's money making basketball team during the NCAA finals. I'll bet the season wouldn't have been canceled.

Some Duke buddies and I were discussing that very thing. We were kinda glad we got eliminated at the sweet 16 level. The Lacrosse attention on the Bball team would have been ludicrous and overwhelming.

They've obviously got a DNA sample, yet none of it matched. But no word on whether they tested the boyfriend...

The problem is, she didn't identify her alleged attackers when she was given the pcitures of the whole team to look at; hence the need for DNA samples from all the team, except the one black member.
