COMPTON, Calif. -- A man was mauled to death by three guard dogs after he jumped the fence at a metalworking company in Compton Sunday.
Authorities said the man, whose identity has not been released, suffered severe head and back injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the dogs, all pit bull mixes, attacked the man after he jumped the fence at the Cal State Steel Company. Security guards who heard his screams called 911.
Sheriff's deputies arrived to find the man badly mauled and still under attack. They said they were able to order the dogs away without using weapons.
The dogs are at a shelter. They'll be quarantined until county animal control officers decide their fate.
The business owner should claim that maybe the guy jumped the fence to torment the dogs. Hmmmm. How do we know? Maybe the dogs were just chewing in self defense.
Did the dogs do wrong? No
Did the owner of the plant do wrong? No
Who jumped the fence at his own free will and put himself in danger? The guy jumping the fence.
It will be interesting to see how the liberal media spins this one.
Well the South side of Chicago
Is the baddest part of town
And if you go down there
You better just beware
Of a man named Leroy BrownNow Leroy, more than trouble
You see he stands about six foot-four
All the downtown ladies call him "Treetop Lover"
All the men just call him "Sir"And he's bad, bad, Leroy Brown
The baddest man in the whole damned town
Badder than old King Kong
And meaner than a junkyard dog [but not three]--Jim Croce
It has long been the case under English and American common law that a property owner may not lawfully use a "spring gun" or similar weapon that is automatically triggered by a person trespassing onto a property and blows that person's head off.
If the dogs were NOT in fact properly trained guard dogs, but simply untrained pit bulls whose nature is to viciously attack anything they can, then the owner may have a problem.
LOL! I think they got a little of both...
Agreed...so what if a perp runs from the cops, jumps a fence on the freeway, and into the path of van full of illegal immigrants? Can't be the illegals fault, right?
Too stupid to live?
We don't know that there were any "beware of dog" signs.
We don't even know why the man jumped the fence.
What if he was a completely innocent person who was being chased by some gang-bangers and jumped into the property hoping to escape? Would Freepers still be cheering this man's death in that case?
Or what if he was just trying to take a short cut across the property to get to somewhere else? Any Freepers who grew up in small towns or rural areas may have done the same thing a time or two. Is it still a good thing if he were killed in that case?
Or what if he WAS out to pinch some sheet metal? He deserves to die for that?
I can understand people saying, well it's unfortunate he died; the dogs killed him in spite of their training and the security guards just got there too late.
But the folks on here who think this guy deserved to die just because he hopped a fence are nuts.
If there were warning security dog signs I think the fence jumper was a moron for going into a area with 3 dogs. I dont blame the dogs. The moron had no business being in there. If the guy was casing the place he should have been aware of the dogs and fed them something to knock them out. So he must have been inexperinced or dumb.
Ding Ding Ding!!! We have a winner!!! Best line today...especially today; Happy Illegal Immigrant Rally Day.
I cannot believe how many people marching today think that amnesty of illegals is the answer for the problem. The problem we are experiencing here in the US are direct results from a corrupt Mexican government, poverty in Mexico, the US government's refusal to enforce its own laws, no border security, a corrupt US government oligarchy (GOP majority Congress and administration) that has sold out to Corporate America in the name of 'the bottom line'. So, what's the point in fiscally supporting an ineffective, apathetic, greedy, 2-faced federal government?
Heck, most folk give their dogs more respect than our federal government gives us.
Good luck on your novel!!
I have no idea what Europeans you're referring to, I'm American.
So anyone who does something boneheaded like take a short cut through someone else's property deserves to die and their death is no loss to society. God help you that you never do anything boneheaded in your life.
According to the news report, the dogs were still biting the man when the cops arrived. It's unclear where the security guards were during this time. If they were just standing around, and watching this man get bitten to death until the cops finally showed up, they are exposed big-time.
Just guessin'. You don't have anything to the contrary on your page. "Pinch" is more of Brit usage than American; Sir John Barleycorn is a Brit image, too.
I HAVE done boneheaded things and have the scars to show for 'em - bites, cuts, bruises, occastional medical bills, etc. And I knew whose fault it was when I got dinged up. If you survive, you learn, right?
I'm a lot more cautious now than I was when I was 14. And I'm a lot less sympathetic (and I wasn't very sympathetic at 14...).
Never went over a fence like that, though. And I have never tried to burglarize or rob anyone.
And, if you let the dogs out at night, why would you need security guards? You just call 'em back to the kennels in the morning. There were probably no security guards on site.
