Civil action possible in South Park furore

An Auckland priest has failed in his bid to bring blasphemy charges against CanWest, but the fight is not over yet.

Father Denzil Meuli complained to police over the Bloody Mary South Park episode, screened on TV channel C4.

The episode caused outrage in the Catholic Church, after it showed the Pope and a menstruating statue of the Virgin Mary.

But the Solicitor-General has said no to taking a criminal prosecution against the broadcaster.

Father Meuli is taking the rejection well and says there are a couple of other initiatives he is looking at pursuing.

But he says apart from praying there will be no further action until he has had a chance to ponder the options.

Father Meuli says he could take a civil case against CanWest, but that would take a lot of consideration.

He says he has received wide support for his stand against the programme.

....there seems to be more "outrage" over this episode of South Park among some Catholics, than there was over Priests raping boys....

Huh? The child molestation coverage nearly tore the Church apart, and was covered ad nauseum by the media worldwide, for years.

I'm making a point, genius! What's so awful about menstruation? It's a normal bodily function, you know. Isn't it worse to see priests molest boys and not get the same reaction as portraying Mary as menstruating? Personally, I would think (and hope) so! Get it now???

As a Christian, I wholeheartedly disagree. I can only think of a handful of episodes that I found offensive from a Christian perspective. Bleeding statues wasn't one of them.

No, on FR. Since you asked, I found that Christian-haters and Libertarians (usually, synonymous) like bullying the faithful. Cowards prefer to target those who won't fight back. Like yourself, they get a bit antsy, when suddenly that factor can't be relied upon.
