An Auckland priest has failed in his bid to bring blasphemy charges against CanWest, but the fight is not over yet.
Father Denzil Meuli complained to police over the Bloody Mary South Park episode, screened on TV channel C4.
The episode caused outrage in the Catholic Church, after it showed the Pope and a menstruating statue of the Virgin Mary.
But the Solicitor-General has said no to taking a criminal prosecution against the broadcaster.
Father Meuli is taking the rejection well and says there are a couple of other initiatives he is looking at pursuing.
But he says apart from praying there will be no further action until he has had a chance to ponder the options.
Father Meuli says he could take a civil case against CanWest, but that would take a lot of consideration.
He says he has received wide support for his stand against the programme.
(God knows how few there are.)
The show slams everybody/ever thing.
Now I'll be the first to admit it's not everyone's cup of tea (I've always had a strange sense of humor Monty Python etc.) there is always the option of not tuning in.
Thanks, but you've missed the point yet again. The greatest offence in Parker and Stone's tired insult schtick is that of equating Christianity, to Islam or Scientology. Their 'success' has been made possible by freedoms only found in a society established under Christian principles and tolerance- which they then turn around and mock.
Ah, yes, like that episode where abortion clinic bombers ran inside youth centers and blew themselves up. OH WAIT, that never happened. They've never even had an abortion clinic bomber!
How about when Jesus came to earth on a 737 to battle raygun wielding...no, not that either.
Go figure, nothing comparable between Christianity, Scientology or Islam EVER happened. The closest they came was a speech during the Afghanistan episode where Stan (The show's lib) says something about everyone wanting the same thing out of life and every country having good in them. (To which the muslim kids respond they still hate Americans anyway, and probably always will.)
And the show is also the only one in recent memory to insult the Natives. (Red Man's Greed)
Seems like they rip the Muslims the worst, as none of them even speak a real language.
Prior to that speech, by the way...
"Kyle: All right, I've had just about enough of this! They told us in school, and on TV, that most people in Pakistan and Afghanistan like America.
Boy in Blue Vest: And you believe it? It is not just the Taliban that hates America. Over a third of the world hates America!
Stan: But why? Why does a third of the world hate us?
Boy in Blue Vest: Because, you don't realize that a third of the world hates you!!!
Stan: [considers the argument...] ...That doesn't make sense. You guys are just buttholes!"
When you've actually heard of it elsewhere than the MSM's protest coverage you can begin debating like a rational human being instead of being a derisive ageist lib about it. I'm not saying you need to watch it, just understand why it's so well-loved outside of collegiate circles. If it were as bad as you claim, it would be on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim with all the rest of that stoner crap.
Exactly. But why can't Parker and Stone figure that out?
My guess is, they don't have the brains to discriminate between something of value, and something deserving of criticism. Graffiti vandals don't discern between brothels and churches, with their spraypainting. Their motivation could be calculated, of course- pleasing their single-digit IQ audience, who view a menstruating Virgin Mary as some kind of cutting edge humour. Whatever. What I enjoy is watching FR's tiny fraternity of South Park fans, who think it's hilarious to mock Christians, getting all antsy when I point out just how banal their favourite show is. Now *that's* entertainment.
No, they make fun of everyone. I don't really like it but they are fair in their jokes. No one can justify discrimination.
Fixed it for you.
