Had to laugh at your post. My 88-year old Dad plays like that. Can't hit it as far as he used to, but every drive is true. Puts all the younger golfers to shame.

Weather permitting, he is out there everyday. His ultimate shame is that he now has to use a cart. Really hurts his ego. But I believe that golf has prolonged his life. It makes him wake up eager to get to the course everyday.

Yes, she's in contention on the women's tour, which is light-years behind the men's. So far as I know, Wie hasn't won a tournament yet.

Tax-chick makes a good point: Annika played in her men's tournament when she was beating everyone on the women's tour like a drum, and she was doing it every single week. Even then, she didn't make the cut.

I'm not saying that Wie won't ever play in a major championship, though probably not the Masters (it will have to be an Open championship) I don't see her game being at the place where she can compete. As you noted, she's only 16 and perhaps she'll get quite a lot better as she gets older--but then again, maybe she won't. Women's sports are full of Jennifer Capriatis.

well that's the thing...

I think that Wie might be that once in a generation type player.

I don't think that on average the Women will be able to compete with consistency.

Light-years?

I don't know about that.

Behind sure, but they'd kick our butts and you know it too ;-)

Yeah. While I'm certain that I'd get creamed by the gals who tee it up every week, I'm equally certain that all else equal, the male pros would cream the lady pros.

Not to keep returning to Annika, but she is absolutely the best the women's tour has to offer and you can make a strong case that she's the best women's golfer of the past 50 years or so--and she missed the cut. Granted, it was only one tournament, and we don't know what would happen over an extended period of time, but evidently Annika wasn't sufficiently encouraged to keep trying...

I think Wie will eclipse her. Hell she's playing her nearly even and Wie is nearly 20 years younger.

The song is "Augusta" by Dave Loggins. The CBS version is heavily protected and not available. Willie Nelson did a version, though.

Most courses don't let you walk anymore....have to take the damn cart. I played my best when I walked with a canvas bag and only the 3 wood, 3,5,7,9, irons, wedge and putter....a very light bag!

No, this was the background music played while the leader boards were being posted. Very classical and played low db.

Too bad Wie is so lacking in ethics. Her father's influence possibly. It's hard to forget how she lied about a fellow golfer.

one incident doesn't equate to "lacking in ethics"

Come on now....

bill Clinton is "lacking in ethics"

Hillary Clinton is "lacking in ethics"

You can listen to Willie Nelson and Don Cherry's version here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001BLJ/103-7426015-8600604?v=glance&n=5174

As I recall, Cherry adapted the music and Loggins wrote the words.

I have friends back in OK whose daughters are Junior Ryder Cup players. I'd certainly like to see more opportunities for women in golf. Ultimately, it's up to the spectators, what they want to see.
