What women look for in a man
Wed Apr 5, 2006 4:47 PM BST164
LONDON (Reuters) - The old adage that women look for wealth in a man appears to be under threat after research on Wednesday showed women are starting to put physical attractiveness above solvency.
The shift is occurring because women have been freed from the constraints that previously dictated how they chose a mate as they increasingly control their own finances, the study said.
"We are seeing that women who have control over their finances are less concerned with the fiscal status of their potential mates and look more as to how attractive they may be," said one of the authors, Fhionna Moore from University of St Andrews.
The findings, to be published in Evolution and Human Behaviour journal, showed, however, that women who had low levels of financial independence still tended to rate a man's fiscal status above attractiveness.
Moore, a research student, found that as a woman's level of "resource control" changed, so did her preferences.
"It is the control and the independence the money gives rather than the absolute income level that appears to be the key predicting variable," she told Reuters.
An analysis of questionnaires returned by 1,851 heterosexual women aged between 18 and 35 showed women were able to change their attitudes relatively quickly in reaction to their changed financial status.
"We seem capable of changing our preferences in quite a short time which suggest environmental factors rather than inherent traits had a big impact in choice," she said.
"Women are quicker at adapting behaviour than previously thought," added Moore who is attached to the University's psychology department.
Seems we ALL know what we like and our likes are the same!
LOL!
Don't blame me - I told him to stay home... just in case we had "one of those" threads!
;-)
You were not spoiled, my friend. You were blessed. And apparently, so was she.
Which is, no doubt, a good way to live.
Nope it's not from the RatLTrap but I do have one in my tackle box.
I'm sure with a big tackle box you could lure in plenty of men. :-P
:) I don't break out the tackle box and tackle until I know it's my irresistable charm and striking looks they are smitten for. Don't want to be too imtimidating.
Just kidding.
I really do love RatLTraps, probably caught more bass on them than any other bait. I also like spinnerbaits, and have a special affinity for Mepps spinners.
But NOTHING in this world compares to a good topwater bite on poppers.
That man.
He never listens!
Telling a guy you're into fishing would probably relax them, at least you'd have something to talk about. Just keep their mitts outta the tackle box until you know they're for real.
I use mostly spinners, but I agree on the popper. We've got some excellent trout fishing here in GA and I want to learn to fly fish one day. I just bought dad a fly fishing rig for xmas, so next time I go visit I'm going to get all tangled up in fly line out in the yard :-D
Best advice I can give you on the fly casting (and I learned it the hard way) is to remember:
You DO NOT cast with your arm like when using a spin or casting rod, and you WILL catch yourself doing this no matter how hard you try not to -- especially if you are used to the other fishing methods.
Use your wrist, your wrist propels the fly line, just go back and forth with your wrist, then let go of the line.
For your beginning fly casting experiences, I'd recommend a popping bug on a farm pond chock full of big bluegill. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be hooked for life.
What we learn we really want are good guys who could be bad guys if they had cause. And good looking doesn't hurt. Who cares about the money?
It's a dirty job but...
As a man, I think being able to make a woman laugh is great skill. I take pride in the fact that I can make my dear sweet wife bust out in tears laughing. It is a talent I don't ever want to lose.
Geez,I can`t even get that one right, the damn things about push me over the edge.
Dear Carlr,
what I want in a man is one who can plow a good field, has a beautiful Aussie, owns his own home, who will take me juking on Saturday nights, and slow dance when we get home.
(giggling)
:)
