Just off phone with old CBS friends in NY. Would have posted this earlier, but they just got in after drinking their sorrows (somewhat) away on the pending Couric announcement.
Points in general agreement:
Ratings will go up for a few days, perhaps even weeks. Edsel showrooms were full for the first month after it was introduced.
The gradual sink will begin in the Summer news doldrums.
They will not be very apparent in the May or July ratings books, but by the all important November book, it will be WAY down.
Will she make it past the February book? 50/50.
Next year this time? No way.
Inside opinions: She cannot handle any crisis, so any big problems will only make her slide worse. We may see a real hissy fit.
Even if she could handle a crisis, who would turn to her in a crisis if Charlie Gibson was on ABC or someone on FNC?
Finally, she is such a bitch, none of the "little people" will help her, so it will be a painful slide. They would fall on their swords for Chronkite or Scheiffer, but this bimbo, no way.
Pardon the typos. I have been "celebrating" too.
Was bombarded with these silly posters at San Jose Airport recently.
Bookmarked - will check back in a year.
Only ? is which books (ratings periods, Feb May, July, Nov) will it be between.
Megyn Kendall needs he own NETWORK.
If you have ever seen Megyn GRILL anyone............ you would KNOW what I mean.
It is true.......... that Megyn Kendall is THE BEST ............. and I am a genius and know these things!
;-)
Maybe it will manage to break even by the end of the day.
I am also betting that CBS will not dump her no matter how low the ratings go. Within five years most of the remaining CBS affiliates will dump the CBS evening newscast in favor of syndicated sitcom re-runs.
>I predict that CBS News will get a hefty bump in the ratings when she starts because of the novelty factor. That will wear off quickly and the ratings will drift back down below where they are now.
Totally correct
>I am also betting that CBS will not dump her no matter how low the ratings go.
Absolutely not. They would fire God if he had low ratings.
Low numbers and the affiliates will sream for her scalp.
>Within five years most of the remaining CBS affiliates will dump the CBS evening newscast in favor of syndicated sitcom re-runs
No, it will be a modern variation of the "news wheel"
Be well.
She'll start "filling in" on the morning show and, eventually, it'll be her permanent gig again.
Between 1980 and 2004, the number of viewers for the "CBS Evening News with Dan Rather" dropped 65%. It also dropped from #1 in the ratings to a distant #3.
Before long, CBS will consider "The Odd Couple II", with Connie Chung and Dan Rather.
She looks a little manic to me.
Sorry, I must have missed something...what announcement?
The announcement was that she was going to become the CBS News anchor. This thread was from back in April.
OOPS, silly me.
