World of Warcraft or otherwise known as simply, WoW is one of the most popular and successful computer games in history. It is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game that 6 million people pay $10 -15 per month to play. This type of popularity creates a sample size that is large enough to reflect the forces that control it. In Layman's terms, with this many people playing this online game at any given time human nature tends to get a stronger representation. [Related articles below]
The first "reality" check was a bug that caused a plague to outbreak and affect people's characters in certain cases instantly killing any player below a certain level.
The second "reality" check was when this group of Warcraft players otherwise known as a guild interrupted a memorial service. Apparently, some dude dies in real life who is a popular WoW player. The people in the game think it would be nice to have a memorial for the player so they log into his account, take the character to a lake, and set it up for everyone to come pay their respects.
A bunch of dudes decide this would be a great time to ambush everyone so they run over a hill, kill the dead guy's character, and then wipe out everyone who was there to show their respects. They filmed the whole thing and put it on the net for everyone to see.

What a laff riot. Sick and twisted. Right up my alley.
I have periodically added a link to a Google video in my IE Favorites. Sometimes when I return to it weeks later, it's dead.
Does anyone have any idea why it looks like nobody fought back?
Shock and Awe baby. Shock and Awe.
Are you the guy with the gaming ping list? You need to see this.

Help me out here. Did LeeeeeRoy betray his clan, or was he just stoned?
LOL, I didn't even know Fred Phelps was a gamer.
Dunno, and the clan that did it won't say. Here's where it finally hit the big time, though ;)

I'm speechless. It wouldn't be nowhere near as funny if their movie production wasn't so good. Man, multiple camera shots, great music choices... wow. I mean, as you said it - sick, so wrong, and so damn hillarious.
Well, I guess if you wanted to go for infamy, that was *the* way to do it. That is damn hard to top. Pretty much. I don't have the sick imagination necessary to even begin to conteplate what one would have to do to top this.
I've seen/read a lot worse. I'll see if I can find something from DAoC.
Now that is funny!
Hah! That's possibly the most hilarious thing I've read today. Serves you right for having the event in a constested zone.
I'm no expert, but I say that the WoW mods should place a marker at the site, along the lines of those National Histroical Markers you see by the road, reading "So-and-So and his Guild were PWNED here."
I don't even know what PvP means, but you sound like you're making perfect sense.
