Our legal immigration levels are just fine.

I wouldn't stop it, but I would lower it. And, I would substantially revise it.

I say you're insane. America needs immigration, always has. It just doesn't need *illegal* immigration.

I think all immigration should be stopped until officials can get control of who is in this country and deport the illegals.

Heck no.. at that, we need to get the legal immigration laws updated as they are still full of red tape going back to the LBJ administration. There would be less illegal immigration if legal immigration was easier (and safer)..

Controlled, legal immigration should be allowed only when it is in the best interest of the United States. The emphasis should be on the best interest of our country, not the best interest of the immigrants.
To: clawrence3
Yes, shut down legal immigration as well.
To: clawrence3
What say you?I'd rather see legal immigration doubled or tripled from current levels. I'd like to see legal immigration being higher than the current legal and illegal immigration combined.
Immigrants made this country great. I'd like to see it spread around the world and biased toward educated people who want to become Americans.

I favor vigorous legal immigration. I just want to know who's coming in, and I want to control the flow according to our needs.
Welcome to our wonderful country. Now get a job and assimilate.

legal immigration is fine.
I would prefer some enforcement of assimilation were actively pursued.

I'm not sure how you even compare the two.One is a group of people who show open contempt for our laws, sovereignty, and our country. Those who are here to grab as much as they can, through any means necessary, and send it back to their home country to which they maintain loyalty and citizenship.
The other is willing to respect our country and rules and wants to join the Greatest Nation on Earth, to share our freedoms, benefits, and responsibilities.

I think legal immigration needs to be increased, with the process much more streamlined and expedited.
This country was founded on "give us your tired, your poor," etc.

I have no problem with
legal immigration. Our own
Anna_Z became a U.S. citizen last year after spending many years in the red tape and paper maze.
To: clawrence3
No.
In fact, if we get illegal immigration stopped, or at least greatly curtailed, we may be able to increase the level of legal immigration. It also could then be more evenly distributed among various nations.

Legal immigration should be streamlined so that those willing to work can be here legally, enrolled and engaged in the system, paying taxes and assimilating.

Legal immigration is part of what makes America great. The great thing about legal immigrants is that, for the most part, they want to be Americans, not just make money. Another great thing about legal immigration is that they are required to learn our history and culture, many knowing more about America, by the time they become citizens, than those born here. Legal immigrants should always be welcome in America and should receive their deserved place at the front of the line, taking the straight and narrow route, the most difficult route to become Americans. It shows that they want more than a paycheck because to become a citizen is a challenge and an undertaking that makes a person proud to be an American.

I want to increase legal immigrant levels, AFTER we throw out the illegals. There should be room for doubling the legal immigrants with the illegals out of the way.
We should be able to handle a million new people a year, properly registered and tracked.
To: clawrence3
I hope not. We are barely at the replacement rate right now. I suspect we do our best to birth control ourselves out of existance. Just looking at Russia and Europe shows that.
