Agree, but I would get rid of bogus programs like the "diversity immigration lottery" which does nothing to select the quality of immigrants we get. A point system like most other rational countries in the world use would be far better than drawing from a pool of favored countries. For example, from an Allied country +8 points; from a hostile country -8 points; math professor +9 points; political activist -20 points; service in the U.S. miltary +25 points, etc.

You do realise that while we always had immigration, the numbers we allowed in fluxated. We generally had one generation of high immigration followed by another of assimilation. The two times we have broken from this were the great wave of 1880-1924 and 1965 onwards.
The cultural damage was and is extensive. We need time to heal, Americanize, and integrate the new immigrants.
