The question has come up on different threads here - we know everyone who wants all ILLEGAL immigration stopped, but who is for stopping all LEGAL immigration as well? Whether it is just for a "short" time or permanently, let me know.

Legal and controlled (not "open borders") immigration, from a wide range of countries, from a wide range of skills (laborer to professor).

Certainly not ALL. That'd be stupid. I personally am happy with the current levels also.

Well, we are up to 10 so far on this thread alone - stupid or not.

I'm all for legal immigration. Come in the way you're supposed to, get health checks and background checks, learn to speak english and you're more than welcome here.

In my area of Texas, we have a huge need for nurses and medical personnel and are only able to fill those needs with visas for highly skilled workers. Further, my field is very dependent on researchers from overseas as well. So, no....I wouldn't be in favor of cutting off ALL immigration.

Sheesh! Not one peerson on this forum can do this for five years. Not one. You might not even know you are in violation of the peace and dignity of whatever sanctimonious jurisdiction you are in, and you might not get caught, but it is a sure bet you have broken some law, violated some ordinance, or stepped on the wrong blade of friggin' grass, whether or not you intended to.
Set a realistic standard, please
no.
the native born get a bye. those who wish to come here and remain here must be held to the highest standard.

Cut it ALL off until ALL Americans have jobs Not all Americans want jobs. Further, there are some that might take jobs except that they aren't qualified for even minimum-wage work (if employers could hire them at sub-minimum wage and be able to fire them at will, the value of such workers might quickly exceed the minimum wage, but otherwise it's not worthwhile for employers to bother).
The real problem is not so much that there are immigrants in the workplace, but rather that in some important ways illegal immigrants can compete in the workplace in ways that citizens cannot.

"Neither that poem, nor the Statue of Liberty, herself, had ANYTHING at all to do with any 'foreign government'"
For such a renown historian your post seems to have a serious internal conflict.

I think we agree that the sentiments expressed are not those of the founders.

OK.
You want to know what we think?
I want to know what you think.
What do we do with the ILLEGALS already here?
What do we do with their children?
How do we secure our borders?
C'mon. Yer a smart fellar. Surely you have brewed an exceptionally elegant solution to the dilemma?

Sorry. I was a little rough. I just think it'd be highly inadvisable to do that.

Nope. But cutting off *legal* immigration would be national suicide.
