Five teenage girls from Portage County face potential criminal charges after attempting to play a real-life version of Super Mario Bros.
The Portage County Hazardous Materials Unit and Bomb Detection Unit were called in to downtown Ravenna on Friday morning after seventeen suspicious packages -- boxes wrapped in gold wrapping paper with question marks spray painted on them -- had alarmed residents.
Boxes were found at the Immaculate Conception Church on West Main Street, the Portage County Courthouse, Deluxe Pastries, the corner of Cherry Way and Main Street, Reed Memorial Library, Ravenna High School and a residence at Sanford and Main streets.
Five girls -- age 16 and 17 -- claimed responsibility for making and placing the packages. The girls said they found an Internet site that included step-by-step instructions for creating replicas of blocks featured in the game.
The Ravenna Police Department will be working with the Portage County Prosecutor's Office regarding possible criminal charges as a result of the game.
At least they weren't trying to pull off a real life verion of "Frogger" on the freeway.
Duck Hunt would have been safer.
Charges? Are you kidding me?
Let me get this twisted country right....
Illegal is legal as long as you can get away with it. But, playing a game, although some were concerned about the boxes, can land you in jail even after it is found to be harmless?
Classic....simply classic.
Idiots in charge PING
Seinfeld has proven that real-life Frogger is funny. This article proves real-life Super Mario is not. Giant spray-painted boxes? What were they thinking?
LOL
Littering?
Perhaps this was a convient excuse to eat "mushrooms" to become "large" and "superpowered."
What on earth would they be charged with? Did the boxes have bombs in them? I really don't understand.
Sweet Home = best NES game EVAR. Too bad it was never released in the US.
Alice's Restaurant.
Or DOOM.
What was it?
I admit it. I buried that envelope at the bottom of the trash heap....
20 million illegal alien criminal invaders dont scare the authoritites one bit...in fact they embrace them and their Mexican flags on US soil and in their institutions...and their crimes dont get enforced...
But gold foil packages with ? marks on them....
Scare the Krap out of 'em...American kids (must be 'Anglos')
them..they arrest...
Considering the light penalties given to women who kill their kids, I wouldn't be too worried about the penalties here.
And we have the 8X10 color glossy photos with circles and arrows to prove it!
Oh, I dunno... Maybe they were thinking they were going to play life-sized Super Mario Brothers?
I mean, really, do folks expect teens to stop being teens? Is anything that might, possibly, remotely suggest the slight chance that it could be in someway hazardous to someone, in the opinion of one or two concerned citizens now grounds for prosecution?
If so, the terrorists have won the war. They can start dancing in the streets and shooting their AK-47's.
When we start throwing innocent kids in jail because their brightly decorated boxes made someone think there might be a bomb, we have truly gone off the deep end.
As noted by the full explanations for each circle and arrow written on the back of each photo.
