I am considering adopting this Min Pin. He was born on 01/05/06. He was a puppymill rescue (pup was being sold at a Puppy Auction and the rescue group bought him so he would not be sold to another puppymill for breeding.)
He came with papers (which I don't really care about the papers) But he looks like he is mixed. His legs seem to be shorter than normal, but that might because he is so young. What do you other MinPin owners think?
The reason I ask is because they will be charging me "pure breed" price on him. The price is reasonable but I don't want a short legged MinPin. He is as cute as button and his leg height really does not matter to me, but it does to my husband.
This pup has already been neutered and I have a female spayed MinPin mix (she is 90% MinPin, but I got her when she was 5 months old and her legs never looked this short). My female is only 10 pounds and is 2 years old now.
Also... I know all about MinPin's, I just have not seen many baby MinPin's before and I have no idea if this one looks normal for a pure breed.
If you look at pic's of Pure Breed min-pins, you will see that not a lot of them look alike.
We got our first min-pins almost five years ago. Two of our females had three litters between them, all of the puppies were different. (Kinda like children).
The following are pic's of Mom, Dad and baby (at three weeks old).
I never liked small dogs.
Granted I had never been exposed to them, I disliked them on principle.
Then I met Eaker and his small dogs.
Yeah, they are small and yappy and never remember who I am
and nip at me.. I see them as "house raptors" doing their job.
There was this one, though.. Mr. Phudderson. He was small.
Freakin' tiny. But he was so cool, he had an attitude and knew
what was his. He accompanied Eaker & I out to the deer lease
and made it his own.
On his first day there, Phudd was riding in the back of the truck with Eaker.
We were moving construction materials to a jobsite. It being an extreme
wilderness area, Phudd spotted a jackrabbit.
Phudd leaped out of the back of that truck.. about 7 stories to him..
and took off after that jackrabbit like he was born to the role.
He had never seen a jackrabbit and didn't know what a jackrabbit
might eat, or what a jackrabbit's capabilities might be. He didn't care.
Full on attack.
The jackrabbit outweighed Phudd at least 4 to 1.
Min Pins are some great big dogs.
Yeah, but they nip at you less & less each time they see you.
There was this one, though.. Mr. Phudderson. He was small. Freakin' tiny. But he was so cool, he had an attitude and knew what was his.
Phudd was very similar to Dix - Everyone Loved Dix & Everyone Loved Phudd and both of them left us to soon.
see post 23 - I found pictures of one at 12 weeks which is the same age as the one I am interested in.
I know no 2 look alike, but the legs sure looked short on the one I am interested in, but it seems they are short looking at that age. I think he will be ok... I sure like his face and the way they cropped his ears (they didn't cut off too much) - I like them cropped and not cropped, My female was never cropped or docked. If I had it my way none of them would be cropped or docked.
He is a handsome little minpin!
If they approve me for adoption then I will get to pick him up after the 13th of April.
I appreciate everyone's opinion. I know minpin's get bred with doxies and that was what I was concerned about because of the short legs. He is not registered with AKC but is registered through ACA (American Canine Association) and the papers came with him from the puppy auction. (the papers don't matter to me)
Note:
The puppy in the pic has turned out to have long legs like her mom.
Horsepucky.
If it ain't the same day I'm a total stranger.
Even Mojo who has known me for years...
"Bark at the stranger! Kill! Kill!"
After twenty minutes they remember me..
TCO
Absurd ... )
"...they are the Velociraptors of the canines."
What a perfect description! My little red min pin is a cheating little punk with an agenda, but the sweetest dog that I have ever owned. They are smart and protective and ALWAYS hungry.
see picture in post 34
Sounds more like a marital issue than a puppy one.
Awwwwe! :)
Woof! :)
I seem to recall a picture posted once of Phudd charging across a field towards a cow.
He is handsome.
Let us know when you are his officially his mom.
