Radio Still Uneasy with Dixie Chicks ping
(not really an official ping list, but if you're sick of hearing about the Chicks on FR, please let me know)
Thanks for the ping and keep me on your list.
I've had it with Natalie and her elitist, spoiled in your face attitude. The group might come back and make money but it won't be mine. I won't even listen to their music.
Thx for the ping!
Nope........ I am glad they are still having trouble . A little sad that such gets em free PR hits. Good or bad they are in the noooooze. I do not like that part of the boycott. But hey the bad comes with the good I spose....
Stay safe and Thanks for the ping !
Since you pinged me, I'll give you my take...
I was a DC fan earlier on. I liked the banjo-mandolin faux-bluegrass flavor. I'm sure real bluegrass fans would hate it, but I'm not a bluegrass fan, I like music with that bluegrass flavor in the background. I like Allison Krauss, big time... Vince Gill's music has that flavor about it.
And I liked that quality in DC's music. Their last album, though, I disliked, didn't buy, it was clearly an attempt to go mainstream, which I took as DC losing faith in the music that had got them to where they were. It was not long after that record was released that they attacked their own country in time of war, which really is unforgiveable. Its not unforgiveable that they disagree with me, they're musicians, who cares. Its unforgiveable the really awful things they said, essentially, about me and people like me.
So, while I am not boycotting them or anyone else, per se, the fact is that I don't like them, and I can't listen to them. Anything of theirs comes on the radio, I hit the button. Not to "boycott" them, but because I just can't listen to them. There is a list of movie actors whose remarks have been so ugly as to cross a line with me, and I can't watch anything they are in. Its not a boycott, I just can't stand to see them on screen. There are several other musicians who I previously liked, but can no longer listen to.
Its not a matter of "shut up and sing", they really don't get it. Its letting your art speak for you. Art, music, literature, if done well can communicate across lines in a way that a political speech can't. Step over into politics, and you pay a high price, if your desire was to communicate your truth. Art should never be overtly political, if you want people to hear you. Nor should artists.
I, for one, believe their 15 minutes of fame are over.
