Radio still uneasy with Dixie Chicks

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Country radio may be ready to make nice with the Dixie Chicks.

The grudge dates back to 2003 when many country stations stopped playing the popular trio after lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President Bush.

But the Chicks' new single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," is now in rotation in several major markets, pushing it to No. 36 on Billboard's country singles chart after its first full week of airplay. Other stations, however, have been slower to embrace it.

"I think a lot of people are in a wait-and-see mode," said Wade Jessen, director of Billboard's country charts. "The next couple of weeks are really going to tell the tale."

I was referring to the airplay of the song.
Its flopping.

With that said, let me leave you with this little nugget.

"We dont need any airplay to sell 2 or 3 million albums" Emily Robison in 2003.

Since making the satement they released a live greatest hits package called Top Of The World. Its been out since 11/2004 and has yet to sell a million copies. In cpmparison, Garth Brooks live GH album, has sold 20 million copies. :)

Since you pinged me, I'll give you my take...

I was a DC fan earlier on. I liked the banjo-mandolin faux-bluegrass flavor. I'm sure real bluegrass fans would hate it, but I'm not a bluegrass fan, I like music with that bluegrass flavor in the background. I like Allison Krauss, big time... Vince Gill's music has that flavor about it.

And I liked that quality in DC's music. Their last album, though, I disliked, didn't buy, it was clearly an attempt to go mainstream, which I took as DC losing faith in the music that had got them to where they were. It was not long after that record was released that they attacked their own country in time of war, which really is unforgiveable. Its not unforgiveable that they disagree with me, they're musicians, who cares. Its unforgiveable the really awful things they said, essentially, about me and people like me.

So, while I am not boycotting them or anyone else, per se, the fact is that I don't like them, and I can't listen to them. Anything of theirs comes on the radio, I hit the button. Not to "boycott" them, but because I just can't listen to them. There is a list of movie actors whose remarks have been so ugly as to cross a line with me, and I can't watch anything they are in. Its not a boycott, I just can't stand to see them on screen. There are several other musicians who I previously liked, but can no longer listen to.

Its not a matter of "shut up and sing", they really don't get it. Its letting your art speak for you. Art, music, literature, if done well can communicate across lines in a way that a political speech can't. Step over into politics, and you pay a high price, if your desire was to communicate your truth. Art should never be overtly political, if you want people to hear you. Nor should artists.

Exactly. Entertainers typecast themselves when the abuse their celebrity to prosyltize their politics. Glover is the most recent example. I can't enjoy his acting in any role without being reminded of the racist statements he makes. I change the channel. Even repeats like "Lethal Weapon" are now too nauseating to watch.

Manes and her ilk have prostituted their art. We give them a platform to entertain from, not preach from. I think her actions in Europe were mere profit-mongering. She wanted to break into the Euro market and spouted her anti-americanism to bond with potential buyers. Its the modern equivalent of Hollywoods casting couch: actors make moonbat political statements to get invited to the right parties, so they can meet the right producers and get cast in the right movies. They are whores.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner.

I pay these people to entertain me. Period. That's all they are. To take my money under that guise and then preach to me about the cause of the week takes a tremendous amount of arrogance. Like the lady said, shut up and sing.

I'm still waiting for the Dixie Broads to apologize.

And I'm still waiting for the Houston Texans to go to the Super Bowl.

Ugh! Blech!

They don't get airplay here AT ALL. Everytime one of the two local stations floats the little "which way is the wind blowing" balloon it get's shot down right away. They had a call in about a month ago -- call and say what you thought about the tramps, would you ever forgive them, etc. I called in. I will never forgive them for giving comfort to the enemy when my brother was on enemy soil. That was my answer then and continues to be. Besides which, it begs the question... did they ASK for forgiveness? Nope -- they're throwing it back in our faces again. Too bad. I actually LIKED their music. But not enough to evercome the taste of bile in my throat when I think of their words.

Can someone who has seen the video veify this for me?

I was told that "They did use light coming through a door that illuminated in the shape of an up-side down cross, and Marty was fiddling in the illuminated and inverted cross."

Did they really go so far as to mock the cross and Christ? Im no fan, but I have a hard time believing they went this far.

Can anyone confirm?

I asked around and others say they display it at least 8 times in the video. Who do they think they are hurting by displaying the inverted cross? What message is that about, that people who dont buy their products are satinists..or is their coming out party? Im appaled.

WOW, I didnt think they couls sink any lower, but they found a way.

Notice they dont mock Muhommed. Cowards.

I think that by using an inverted cross, they are trying to signify that they are martyrs (think about the disciples who were crucified upside down.) They're not martyrs. They are stupid, treasonous, obnoxious bimbos.

Its the symbol for the rejection of Christ. They arnt mocking those who boycott them. They are mocking the Son of God who was nailed on a Cross so they could continue to live in darkness. They may be to fricken ignorant to see it, but they are doing it none the less.
