NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Country radio may be ready to make nice with the Dixie Chicks.
The grudge dates back to 2003 when many country stations stopped playing the popular trio after lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President Bush.
But the Chicks' new single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," is now in rotation in several major markets, pushing it to No. 36 on Billboard's country singles chart after its first full week of airplay. Other stations, however, have been slower to embrace it.
"I think a lot of people are in a wait-and-see mode," said Wade Jessen, director of Billboard's country charts. "The next couple of weeks are really going to tell the tale."

Thanks for the ping and keep me on your list.
Those numbers moved pretty quickly. Must be a rather small sample size. [grin]
I've had it with Natalie and her elitist, spoiled in your face attitude. The group might come back and make money but it won't be mine. I won't even listen to their music.
Why blame W? Don't ask me!!
I just said that I'd cut them some slack.
bush bashing is "de jour" and they wanted to ride the bandwagon.
Yeah, their rise to stardom went to their empty heads.
"It is totally me being who I am, and not wanting to compromise myself and hate my life."
Natalie, nobody cares. Really. Give it up. Moveon.org. It's boring old news. Find something new to whine about.
The presales on their new CD must suck. They had to get back in the news with this story.
Yep. They were given a second chance by the music industry and they blew it.
They had to get back in music with that one song. The story the song is about is two years old.
It's clear the only ones who "Get it" are the consumers. The Dixie Chicks suck, their music sucks, it's time to move on.
Thx for the ping!

Natalie might need some rotation on the Pilates, not to mention putting the Big Macs down while she's watching Oprah... |
Other than that, they're all kinda cute.
They have another song on the album that slams the entire town of Lubbock Texas as being narrow minded becuase they no longer want to hear the chicks.
The chicks have to bash someone or something in order to get noriced anymore. They are barely hanging onto to a chart position in ANY genre. Any other band out there getting as much free plublicity as the chicks are getting off this scab picking would already be at #1.
They will be picking their scabs for 60 minutes coming up in May. Im sure by then Natalies anger and bitterness over nobody wanting to hear her anymore will have reached maimum capacoity and she will bash bush and anyone else who no longer wants to financially support them. Then they are off to Qadi Khouriq to pick their scabs for her as well.
Sure they are. If you like barrels and wall eyes! ROFLMAO~
At least Milli Vanilli had the decency to just quit, and they were only charged with lip-synching.
The chicks have no decency. They are the most over rated act out there. They cant write or produce to save their lives. The best thing they had going for them was the ability of the sisters to play an insutrument and now they have been reduced to Natalies back up singers. They should have put their foot in her ass years ago. Oh well their loss...Live by the sword, die by the sowrd!
Most bands would have split up by this time, moved on to other bands or solo careers. But since they keep picking at that scab over and over again, they're never going to heal from any of this even if they do move on to other bands or solo careers. Episodes like this stick around in people's minds for years.
I don't think the album has gone on sale yet. My prediction is the media will run some news stories painting the Chicks as victims, and Sony will buy some mega-commercial time on TBS, TNT, the housewife channels, etc. "In Stores Now!"
I think there is a chance their album could debut at #1. But I don't see it in the top 10 after 4 weeks. Or in the top 40 after 8.
But they will not see the success of 'Wide Open Space' (12 million copies) or 'Fly' (10 million copies) ever again. The way 'Home', their third album, plummeted off the charts after Natalie made her comment is a sure sign of that.

But instead, what Natalie Maines thought was noteworthy was how bad she felt with everyone being all mean to her. Poor thing.
She apparently got a couple of dumb death threats, which she milks here for all it's worth. Now, obviously it's wrong for people to do that. Idiots who would make physical threats against a singer over a little of nothing like this need to be knocked upside their stupid heads with a 2x4. If I knew of anybody in my part of the country responsible for such a thing, I'd do it for her. Maybe it'd get me a date. I'll defend you, Natalie!
But that doesn't make it cool to milk a couple of half-assed threats for public sympathy. Nor, especially, does it excuse the self-serving hatefulness of generalizing a couple of schmucks out to tar the other 99.999% of their critics who were NOT threatening them. In short, she's not ready to make nice with ANYBODY. Whatever. She's trying to steal an unearned sense of moral superiority. I for one am not inclined to recognize it.
Plus, did I mention that this song sucks?
