NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) -- Country radio may be ready to make nice with the Dixie Chicks.
The grudge dates back to 2003 when many country stations stopped playing the popular trio after lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President Bush.
But the Chicks' new single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," is now in rotation in several major markets, pushing it to No. 36 on Billboard's country singles chart after its first full week of airplay. Other stations, however, have been slower to embrace it.
"I think a lot of people are in a wait-and-see mode," said Wade Jessen, director of Billboard's country charts. "The next couple of weeks are really going to tell the tale."

What exactly are they victims of? Aren't they the ones that said the offensive remarks about President Bush? Yet they are not ready to "forgive" or "forget" or "make nice". WTF. They are the ones that did the thing they're claiming to be victims of.
If they're referring to Toby Keith, all he did was answer their offense remarks. Is that what makes them victims?
Or are they referring to the fans that didnt' buy their cd's or go to their concerts after the offensive remarks? Are they claiming to be victims of their ex-fans who they now are trying to sell records to?
I'm sorry. I'm not getting this song?
Funny!
Oops. Was that out loud?
This is what she had to say last month....
"For me to be in country music to begin with was not who I was. I liked Martie and Emily's playing, but I did not grow up liking country music. And I guess I was ignorant to the fact that the stereotypes behind country music were true and it was disappointing. And so at this stage, I can never... I would be cheating myself and not setting a good example for my children to go back to something that I don't wholeheartedly believe in. So I'm pretty much done. They've shown their true colors. I like lots of country music, but as far as the industry and everything that happened... I couldn't want to be farther away from that. And it's easier when you're financially set, because you can be a little more ballsy, and just do what you want to do. I don't want people to think that me not wanting to be a part of country music is any sort of revenge. It is not. It is totally me being who I am, and not wanting to compromise myself and hate my life. "
People in ALL genres are laughing at them. They think they are some how sitting at the "Cool kids" table because they reached "pawn" status.
sounds like the ramblings of a terribly immature, self-centered person with no sense.
You see that with neglected and abused children. They act out because negative attention is better than no attention at all. Rather distrubing considering that the behavior is coming from a grown woman.
freep this poll about their new video!

Did my part. :)
Our local country station played their new song and had a poll on their website asking if the listeners wanted to hear them. 65% voted against them. So they won't be on my local station. However, I switched over to the top 40/pop station (owned by the same company that owns the country station) and they were playing the Chicks' version of Landslide.
There's no doubt they are going to get back on country radio. Viacom-owned CMT will do an all-out knob-slobbing Dixie Chicks worship month and play their videos every ten minutes. But their sales will never reach the levels of 'Fly', 'Wide Open Spaces', and 'Home'. They will not sell out a concert tour (unless they play low-capacity arenas) - heck, they couldn't sell out their Vote for Change dates.
As for the song (which I've listen to twice) - the music sounds fine, but that is just a trademark of Rick Rubin's (producer) work. He is really good. The lyrics and singing came across (to me) as a "F*** you" to anyone who disagreed with them.
Which is consistent with Natalie's wardrobe. :-)
Radio Still Uneasy with Dixie Chicks ping
(not really an official ping list, but if you're sick of hearing about the Chicks on FR, please let me know)
In DC, of course they'd buy it. Let's hear from others.
Why all the blame directed at W? Can't they blame the state of Mississippi as well?
New Toby Keith CD is titled "White Trash with Money".
Well, please realize that D.C.'s politics don't exactly align with traditional country music listeners. However, I did take my region into account. :-)
I dont buy their music. They never interested me. I dont like them , never did, never will.
Bingo!
43% "hate it".
They have no integrity. Natalie said ladt month that she wouldnt be setting a good example if she went back to "Country".... but they are trying to do just that.
"We would rather be the rock of country than then the lame asses of rock" Natalie Maines
