Married man is suing for date
EHARMONY REFUSES HIM UNTIL DIVORCE
Mercury News
John Claassen wants a date so badly he's suing for one.
He's taking eHarmony.com to court, because the popular online matchmaker refused to find him the perfect mate.
Why? Because he is married.
Technically, Claassen says, he is legally separated. But that's not good enough for eHarmony, which says it is in the business of matching singles ``free of relationship commitments.'' That puts him in cyber-dating limbo.
``Most people don't file a suit to get a date,'' Claassen said Friday after filing a civil rights suit last week in Alameda County Superior Court. ``If I had my druthers, I'd be divorced by now. I'm emotionally in a different state than I am legally,'' the 36-year-old Emeryville lawyer said.
Claassen alleges eHarmony is discriminating against him on the basis of his marital status. He and his wife of eight years separated last May, and he expects the divorce to be final within two months. When he reached marital status on eHarmony's online compatibility profile, he responded truthfully: ``legally separated.''
But eHarmony says its policy is clear: No marrieds need apply.
Citing California civil code, section 51, Claassen alleges eHarmony, based in Pasadena, is breaking state law because it is denying him access to its matching service based on marital status. He seeks $12,000 in civil penalties.

LOL, could please you ping the singles group to this one? They might have some witty comments about this guy.
"I found my ambulance-chasing shyster on EHarmony.com"
"...the 36-year-old Emeryville lawyer said."
Gosh, I wonder why he sued????
Oh my God, how embarrassing.
Is this guy really THIS hard up for a date?!
This is one of those lawyers that make me think Shakespeare was right about what to do with them.
I doubt any intelligent woman would be interest in this jerk anyway.
Makes you wonder about those codes that get written and I wonder why Hollywood never gets sued for have race and sex-restricted roles. Do they have some kind of special exemption?
I guess you really can sue anybody for anything.
I guess we know why he's getting a divorce....
I doubt it.
Isn't eHarmony a Christian based dating site?
The operative words being "Christian based"
Funny thing, he was a perfect match with another semi-married member who is also a lawyer and works in the federal government.
His match's screen name is "Hillary2008."
Sueing Eharmony... If he is a Lawyer, then he should know that Single means single...
Sex and race can sometimes be a "legitimate workplace requirement," but the burden is typically on the employer to prove it.
Well, except for the ones that prefer chloroform.
After being browbeaten by a friend, I filled out the LENGTLY questionnaire on eHarmony and submitted it. At once, I got a response back that said I was not compatible with anyone. Grumble.
Lie about wanting adulterous sex. Every blood sucking, worthless, spend someone else's money liberal does it.
The judge should not only throw this case out, but should also bonk this moron on the head with the gavel.
