We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!
Good morning!!
Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
Last Friday, this space wrote about the problem of illegal immigration and that something should be done about it.
Over the weekend, a demonstration of at least 500,000 strong turned out in Los Angeles to protest against making illegal immigration a felony (it isn't???) and against building a wall along the southern border.
We'll make this quick. Congress, you must be doing the right thing since the body politic seems to believe it will cut down on illegals crossing the border. How so? Why would these folks be upset if the measures were a paper tiger?
Press on!
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
Your sister just put country music on in an effort to drive me off her computer. It worked. BBL
PS: this has nothing to do with the Star Trek debate which shall never be mentioned again on this forum. This is truly personal, and the only two peeps I would talk to about it are Deej or Marple. On the phone.
Thanks, Jem. I hope you continue to feel better so you can do some yardwork.
I've been out of the loop and don't understand what's been going on.
Is it correct that we have illegals protesting throughout the country in various places? And how are the Republicans and Democrats coming out on the issue of immigration? Is Congress divided on this issue?
Some time ago, we had a demonstrataion in MD regarding the iimmagration issue and the police would not check id's. As a result a local DJ re: talk show host got intop a fray and was escorted out of the park. He later lost his job when he talked about it on radio. that station is WMAL in metro DC. The whole thing was disgusting...
How can it be that illegal immigrants are dictating policy in our country? I have mixed feelings about the entire issue, although I'm 100% opposed to illegals getting free tuition, etc., things that Americans don't get.
I know what you mean. I am very conflicted on many points of this issue except the point that illegals are taking the jobs Americans won't do. I just don't see it.
There is already an exception in current immigration law regarding the allowing of entry into the country for which there is no labor pool here to do the job. That's a red herring. What is in play is those folks don't want to take the time and energy to do it right--in short, their first act in America is trashing any respect for our legal system.
War is war, and it has never been the case that when you captured a combatant you have to give them a jury trial in your civil courts. Give me a break.
You and I are in agreement on this issue. I don't agree with, because I don't see, that Americans are unwilling to work. I think we have a great work ethic in this ountry and I can't understand that argument. You are right - trashing our legal system is first ontheir list. the irony is thta our legal system gives them the right to speak their mind. No body talks much about the responsibility of one's actions, or speech.
People coming over the border illegally don't want to go through this procedure, either because it costs them time and money, or because they can't pass the investigation.
My son's company only hires through this method. If someone shows up and wants a job, they don't get one unless they have proof of citizenship. And it's pretty easy to check certain things to make sure papers are valid here in Indiana.
I don't understand why companies with labor shortages don't go through the agencies which handle immigrant labor. There are several that operate out of the Southwest states and are experienced in brining labor in.
Oh, wait, that would cost MONEY. Silly me.
I hope the final bill is most like the Kyl-Cornyn bill, which says that illegals can apply to reenter legally AFTER they have gone back to Mexcio.
Message to observer...RUN!
Acceptable compromise. :)
I had a talk with an attractive girl who was quite interested in me a little over 19 years ago, and have been happily married to her now for over 18. :)
...Is FR on a five-second FCC-imposed time delay?
My flight from Dulles to Austin, scheduled for 5:30 PM, was delayed until 10:00 PM due to lack of an airplane. I have been told that an airplane is essential for a commercial flight, but I personnally think that is being too judgemental.
When it was finally time to board, the magic 4 hour delay had occurred and we asked about compensation. The supervisor behind the counter, who hid his name, was very obnoxious and told one of us, "Look, your plane is boarding. If you want to fly to Austin, get on the plane. If you want to stand here and argue about compensation, then don't get on the plane...it makes no difference to me." He told the guy that there would be a ticket agent waiting at Austin to handle the compensation. When we finally arrived at midnight, local time, there was no agent to be seen.
I think United has lost several regular customers, including me.

My experience had counter people trying to talk over each other on the microphone which, naturally, doesn't work well. During a pause I actually yelled (which got a round of applause) as loud as I could (and I'm quite certain I was heard in the entire place)
"IF SOMEONE ELSE IS ALREADY TALKING ON THE MICROPHONE, WAIT YOUR TURN SO WE CAN HERE BOTH OF YOU!"
LOL!
